My 52 week song project ended one year to the day after it began. ‘If the Moon could Tell Stories’ was posted on February 23rd, 2007, and the 52nd song, ‘I Don’t Want to Know’, was posted on February 23rd, 2008. Thank you!!! to all of those who visited and gave the songs a listen – I was overwhelmed with how the word spread with little advertising from me. A special thank you to all of you who made it a point to visit regularly and give me feedback on what you thought of the week’s song. But my biggest thank you goes to those friends who helped creatively with the writing and performing. It was both an exciting and humbling year. I was happy to be immersed in the writing, sometimes overjoyed at how easily the songs came, and at other times despondent over how elusive inspiration could be. But I learned a few important things. I realized that I was less interested in the songs I produced than I was in living within the mindset of constant creativeness. As I finished each song last year, I could feel the sudden excitement at the prospect of beginning the new one. Most importantly, I learned that I wanted to continue to be a student of the craft. So, after taking March 2008 off entirely, to recharge and rest my mind, I’m going to be jumping into a new project in April. I’ll be starting a new 52-week song writing project, within the following constraints. I won’t be posting them weekly on this site anymore – perhaps just the odd one now and then. I won’t be worrying at all about production – I’m giving myself just 2 hours per week for the recording task. And I’ll only be recording parts with instruments that I either play myself or that a fellow musician plays. No samples or virtual instruments. I’ll be making the songs exclusively available to anyone who wants to join my listener list. In addition I’ll be accompanying each week’s song with a blog entry, or diary, of the specific creative journey taken with each song – from inspiration to cries of pain. So if you’d like to join me for (or during) the next year’s trip, please email me at: [email protected] and I’ll add you to the list.If anyone is interested in obtaining all of the songs from last year on CD or MP3, I’m selling all 52 songs in a colourful 4-CD packet, with a 32 page booklet of lyrics and liner notes, for $30 – proceeds from the sale will be going towards the astronomical cost of making a proper studio CD. Just email me at the address above and I’ll find a way to get the CDs to you. Your support is so very much appreciated.Good luck and happiness to all of you…. Alec
