Sonny Boy Magnusson is a legend of Finnish blues scene. He started playing in the end of 1960's togetger with Albert Järvinen. Their band name was HARP. After a few years he became a member of Hojas, which was the longest lived blues band in Finland. Magnusson has also played in bands called Coupe De Ville, Cross Tie Walkers, Too Much Boogie and together with many of Finnish blues players.

Guitarist Sammeli Palovaara and bassplayer Esko Mikkola played togerher in a band called Crosshill. The band started in the year 2000. Pianist Pentti Solonen and drummer Nipa Manninen joined the group later. When singer-harpplayer Matti Ristimäki (Crosshill means Ristimäki in Finnish) left the band, the rest of the band asked Magnusson to join the band. The band decided to change the name to Uptown Boogie.
