.. ... ..The first time I started getting into the blues around 1978 , Being a rocker since 1969 i always loved good strong guitar playing. i was riding around one nite , When i heard this song in the back-ground from this comercial on the radio advertising this club called faces , i thought Man thats got to be the coolest sounding guitar playing i ever heard.( fabulous Thunderbirds ) So i went down there the following week to this small venue .i could hear some of the best tone i have ever heard from the guitar from outside when we arrived!! we went in and the band was all decked out in nice suits, hair slicked back, Thats when i first saw jimmie vaughan & he was ripping it apart , without a wall of amps that i was used too, just one small fender amp. (very Loud but Good tone ) even though there were very few people there they were super good .after that i went again to see them , on this night the line-up had Jimmies younger brother Stevie and his band opening for T- Birds. Stevie was fairly good that nite but I didnt think much of him after hearing big brother tear it up .(stevie apparently didnt like to show off when he played with jimmie ) I talked to Stevie as i was leaving and he said they were playing at a club called Als Bamboo ,if i was interested in seeing him perform again .The show at the Bamboo just blew my ass away , i couldnt believe the power of Lil Stevie!!! Doing all the old blues stuff that i never heard of before .. .. Finally the T-Birds record Girls Go Wild hit the stores in 1979 . I started buying every good blues record i could find ... Another favorite band back then was the Cobras,1981 Also Darrell Nulisch with Anson Funderburgh & The Rockets..1982 it seems like 1983 the vaughans hit it big , i gave up on the big arena shows (hated them ) So Later1987 came my favorite vocalist Doyle Bramhall Sr.who was a major influence too .!984 I met Chuck Nevitt at a Johnny Copeland show. We would always see each other at all the blues shows . It seems we were into the same music .. Chuck had an idea to form the Dallas blues Society and later Dallas Blues Society Records and was kind enough to give me a job covering Blues shows and documenting them . Now thats a job i loved doing. Later 1988 Chuck discovered Zuzu bollin (Big band blues) who taught me some bass lines and after a few years of playing started my own band .1989 after hearing Doyle Bramhall , Chuck did another cd on doyle bramhall 1989, but was never released .. Then 1991 I discovered Henry Qualls(country blues) through a truck driver who was delivering frieght to my job .After a few years of Henry, Chuck discovered another great find ..Big Al Dupree (swing blues)also did the Johnny Moeller/Paul Sizes.. cd (funk blues) , Johnny Moeller cd (rock Blues), Denny Freeman cd(jazz blues). After 6 good cds all differant types of blues i figured we would both be rich , There were many good blues shows that the Dallas Blueds Society put on too, check out my pictures...I would personally like to thank Chuck Nevitt and the Dallas Blues society for all these great memories .heres some differant cds availible through the Dallas Blues Records . .. . .. ......
