Enemy of Empire

Freedom through music, resist the machine!

About Me

Artist, poet, outlaw and Enemy Of Empire.
I believe in life, love, liberty, equality, truth, justice and compassion for all peoples of this world. But what I see is a global financial/corporate/governmental empire that seeks to steal all resources for themselves, in their greed, and to enslave and control the rest of us in their will to absolute power. So I ask all of you, especially musicians and song writers to join me and others in the war against empire; and to help build a better future.
As a pacifist, it is perhaps strange that I speak of engaging in a war, but this is not a war such as you see on your TV screens; of F-15's screaming across the sky, raining death and destruction down on all below; of brave soldiers killing and being killed, for nothing more than a flag and a lie. It is a war for hearts and minds. It is a war for the soul of humanity itself.
You could call it a revolution; but again, not like those we have seen. Change does not come at the barrel of a gun; only political power. The only change you get by violent revolution is exchange. The exchange of one set of masters for another. And if the people did take to the streets in open insurrection, their ragged armies would be cut down before the first mouth opened to cry "Freedom!" No, change must come from within, from within all of us, from within our hearts and minds.
Empire, like Machiavelli, has always sought control of the centre, either by military might or a strategy of lies and deception. I work at the edges of the board, with the lesser pieces. I seek to enlighten, empower and enable. For, as every chess player knows, a single humble pawn who reaches the other side and realises their full potential, can win the game.
Empire fights it's wars with bullets and bombs. My choice of weapons? Words, such as the following lines taken from my song "Enemy of Empire"
"I am sinner, I am saint, I am philosopher and thief
I have come to steal hearts and minds by questioning belief
For I am Enemy of Empire, poet till I die
I just speak the truth, sing my songs
And ask the question why?"
I shall also use these weapons in my poetry and my prose, which will emerge on my blog. So now I have raised my standard of rebellion, let battle commence.
Jackson Browne - Lives in the Balance
Robert Cray - Twenty
James Mcmurtry - We Can't Make It Here Anymore
Neil Young - Let's Impeach The President
Sara Thompsen - Is It For Freedom?
I could say many things about this video but I believe it speaks for itself. All I ask is that you watch, listen and think...

My Interests

Socialising and partying with friends and will go virtually anywhere for live music - always interested in live music venues anywhere near me (north notts area) current fave is The Clinton Arms Retford. Love festivals. My favourite places are outdoors, anywhere from beaches to mountains, as long as the sky is above me and the wind is in my face, I'm happy.

So much for my social life. I do have other interests, which, in no particular order, are as follows.
Global peace, social justice, protection of the environment and all life within it, psychology, philosophy, quantum physics, spirituality, enlightenment, art, science and technology, poetry, meeting new people, song writing and anything else that grabs my attention and holds it for more than a couple of minutes

I'd like to meet:

Anyone else who shares my interests and values. I particularly welcome contact from other musicians/songwriters, who are interested in promoting freedom and opposing empire through their music.
To all the bands out there who send me friend requests - this site is not just another showcase where you can benefit from wider exposure. I am not just a friend collector. So if you're looking for either of these, don't bother. I always appreciate good song writing, as do all of my friends. As you will see from my friends list, I'm pretty eclectic in my musical tastes. If you have something to say and you say it well, then you'll do for me.
If you can, then stand up and be counted, like the rest of us. Use your voice to fight against tyranny, injustice, corruption, war, crimes against humanity and all the other evils of empire.
If you can't do this, then stand up behind us and give us your support, or just write good music and songs because:
