THE UK'S FIRST BLACK DRAMA SCHOOL
"The purpose of Identity Drama School is to encourage actors in general to value themselves, to know themselves, to express and celebrate their identity through acting."
Identity Drama School is the United Kingdom’s first Black Drama School, based at the well respected Arcola Theatre which is home to the largest theatre studios in London. Founded in 2003 by established actor Femi Oguns ( Prime Suspect 6, Strange,Take My Heart, The Bill, Holby City, Doctors,100 Things You Don't Know About Men, Eastenders) the drama school was formed in response to the need for an establishment that reflected and catered for actors coming from a multi-cultural society. Identity Drama School strives to provide drama training of the highest quality, while also preparing actors from a variety of ethnic backgrounds for the reality of becoming a working actor in London.
Since its opening, Identity Drama School has received an overwhelming interest from industry professionals including; casting directors, agents and major film production companies, and has become the first point of call for directors seeking talented black actors.

It was this positive response that lead to the opening of The Identity Agency Group in 2006, which offers professional representation to our very best actors. Students represented by the school are put forward for castings in professional television, film and theatre work.

Deep Professional Showcase

Deep offers a series of raw meditations on the natures of love, anger, obsession and desire. Drawing inspiration from a wide portfolio, the showcase will include the works of; Shakespeare, Wedekind, Patrick Marber, Barry Keefe, Debbie Tucker Green and others. Performed by Identity Professional/Advanced Level Actors.

Totally Over You

Aworkshop adapted version of Mark Ravenhill's original play, TOTALLY OVER YOU explores the superficial appeal of celebrity in a world where teens can either dream of being whirled to fame by Pop Idol or of breaking down on the Jerry Springer Show. If a boy can't display the photogenic cheekbones of Brad Pitt or the publicity muscle of Pdiddy, then he'll never get the girl, and if the girl can't lose her average guy-nextdoor boyfriend, she'll never get the fame. But what's the one truth that even celebrity can't escape – what goes up, must come down…Performed by Professional/Advanced Young Actors. Directed by Femi Oguns

A modern day reworking of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, TORN confronts the issues faced by two young lovers - one African, one West-Indian. Jason Barrett

Jason Barrett who is signed to The Identity Agency Group has had a great start to his career. Not only did he have the fortune of landing a featured role in Eastenders, but he also made his stage debut at the Hackney Empire in Angie Lemar’s critically acclaimed The Brothers, which is set to be adapted for the big screen in the near future.

‘Identity has fully equipped me with the skills and confidence to stand on stage in front of hundreds and be in front of the camera in front of thousands. It’s down to the quality of students and teachers that has given me that – It’s a learning environment’.

Jasette Barrett

Jasette, who is signed to the The Identity Agency Group, has just landed a leading role in the hit musical Daddy Cool. Jasette will be embarking on a year long worldwide tour with the show that is set to be a huge hit.

Tobi Bakare

Tobi Bakare, who is signed to The Identity Agency Group, has just completed filming on the BBC’s Holby City. Tobi will be playing a featured lead role of a young man who has to deal with his friend’s tragic illness.Tobi Bakare is steadily building a very impressive CV. With past credits including Out of Joint Theatre Company’s highly acclaimed production of Macbeth directed by Max Stafford-Clark, Tobi continues his success with landing the lead role in Bola Agbaje’s Gone too Far which is set to premiere at The Royal Court Theatre.

‘Training at Identity has made me more serious about acting as a career. It’s taught me acting techniques that I didn’t know – it’s definitely the place to be if you want to learn. Basically, it’s helped me turn my dreams into a reality’.

Arinze Kene

Arinze Kene, who is signed to The Identity Agency Group, has also landed a role in hit musical Daddy Cool and is currently on the first leg of the worldwide tour.

Marcus Onilude

Marcus Onilude who is an advanced level student has achieved a brilliant start to his professional career with a role in Bola Agbaje’s forthcoming Gone too Far at the Royal Court Theatre. Marcus, who is relatively new to the acting profession, is thrilled to be making his professional debut at such a prestigious venue.

‘The training and guidance I have received at Identity Drama School has given me the confidence and opportunity to realise my goal’.

Anwar Lynch

Anwar Lynch, who is signed to The Identity Agency Group, has just been cast in a leading role in the play Safe by David Kermenstein, which will be directed by Karena Johnson. Safe will preview at the West Yorkshire Playhouse before moving to the Reading play festival.

‘Identity helped me a lot and made me realize that acting is not just acting, and with such a close working rapport I am in the hands of family’.

Bunmi Mojekwu

Bunmi Mojekwu who is signed to The Identity Agency Group, is preparing to make her stage debut in Bola Agbaje’s Gone too Far at the The Royal Court Theatre. Bunmi is thrilled to have won the role, as this will be her first professional production.

Lateef Lovejoy

Lateef Lovejoy has had an amazing year since graduating from Identity Drama School. Not only was he signed straightaway by an agent as a result of the annual showcase, which lead to his professional debut at the Soho Theatre, but he has also just finished playing the lead in the West End production of Dancing In The Street directed by Keith Strachan.

‘Identity was really the foundation of my acting career. It prepared me for working as a professional actor and allowed me to explore and develop my creative potential’.
