A versatile, complete songwriter (lyrics/melodies/chords/arrangements), I write mostly but not exclusively, Soul, Funk, Pop and real R & B songs organically from scratch without sampling other people's work. If there's such a thing as modern 'Old School', then that’s what I do mostly. I just thrive on creating melodic stuff with lots of vocal harmonies aided by nothing more than my ears, a guitar, keyboards, imagination, pen and paper.
Other interests include Artist Management and Music Publishing - a direct link to my web site is situated below, for my artist requirements and other info.
MY BACKGROUND: Took up singing then tenor saxophone for more artistic expression, did my first recording with Sugar Simone on “King without a throne†then joined him in Sugar Simone & the Programme.
One of my first professional engagements was supporting the legend Jimi Hendrix. Later, with another band I also supported Al Green & Jose Feliciano on TV, toured US bases with Erma Franklin - the original singer of “Piece of my Heart†on saxophone, then later becoming a solo recording artist as singer/songwriter/saxophonist and signed my very earliest songs to other music publishers.
One band I formed included: Dave Rowberry (Stevie Wonder, The Animals, The Four Tops, Solomon Burke, Tom Jones), Ron Telemacque (Funkmasters, David Cross, Peter Green, Jimmy Ruffin, Incognito, The Equals) on drums. Under the pseudonym Jimmy Silver, I also gigged or recorded with Eddy Grant, The Pioneers, Gordon Hunte (Sade, Bob Marley, Gonzalez), Roy "Sugar" Smith, Matt Aitkin (Stock Aitkin & Waterman), writer/key's/producer Martin Lascelles ("Love is a house"), Derek Chai (Elton John, Boney M), producer Phil Harding (Peter Waterman Ltd), Ray Carless (Jazz Jamaica, Billy Ocean, Incognito), writer/producer/ Rod Gammons (Beverly Knight, Liberty X, Ultravox), Shirley & Dee Lewis (Bros, George Michael) and played/sang on lots of other recording sessions... much too many to mention. Also gigged with Peter Green as his sound engineer.
After a very long lay-off, I played sax on the theme "Blues for Langston" a Channel 4 TV program on poet Langston Hughes backed by Courtney Pine's Jazz Warriors including Gary Crosby, Tony Rémy & Mark Mondesir.
Back in the songwriting saddle, I've written quite a few catchy, commercial songs and am looking for (a) the right singer with a sensible attitude to manage, then take him/her skywards and (b), signed singers needing my kind of songs.
Note 1: A new Links and Tips page has been added to the site for those needing useful music industry associations (with summaries), so check for regular updates (as time allows).
Note 2: I write SONGS and do not make hip hop/rap backing tracks (beatz).
