Born in Oxford, Daniel began his career assisting Sir Simon Rattle at the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, with whom he made his professional debut in 1994. He went on to assist Claudio Abbado at the Berlin Philharmonic and made his debut with the orchestra at the 1996 Berlin Festival. He is Music Director of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Principal Guest Conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra.His engagements include the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala, Leipzig Gewandhausorchester, Dresden Staatskapelle, Santa Cecilia Orchestra of Rome and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic and Royal Concertgebouw orchestras. In the U.S. he has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Atlanta, Baltimore and Houston Symphony Orchestras.In opera, he has conducted new productions of 'Così fan tutte', ‘Don Giovanni’ and 'The Turn of the Screw' at the Aix-en-Provence Festival; 'Jenufa' at Welsh National Opera and ‘Die Entführung aus dem Serail’ in his debut at the Bayerische Staatsoper. In 2005 he made a triumphant debut at La Scala, Milan, where he opened the season conducting 'Idomeneo', for which he received universal praise. in 2006 he returned to the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden to conduct 'Wozzeck' and he conducted 'Die Zauberflöte' at both the Aix-en-Provence and Vienna Festivals as well as 'Così fan tutte' at the Salzburg Festival. In the 2006/07 season, he will return to La Scala, Milan, for ‘Salome’ and will conduct ‘Le nozze di Figaro’ at the Aix and Salzburg Festivals.Daniel Harding records exclusively for Deustche Grammophon.
