About Me

Friendly hippie tree-hugging heteroflexible vegan earthy social worker green party type individual ;p Proud Pagan with some decidedly Pantheist leanings and some infusion of various Eastern philosophy for good measure. NPR junkie and book addict. Former U.S. Peace Corps volunteer. Traveler and lover of the world and its people. Deep, complicated, multifarious and really quite impossible to put into a box...easy to talk to, difficult to know well...with a HUGE heart. :)
I find that I often feel like an alien in this world. There are so many "popular" systems and ways of thinking that I don't agree with and am not willing to buy into. I'm pretty much a tortured empathic idealist. I vacillate between having tremendous energy and trying to heal the world and everything in it and seeking refuge from it and going inside myself or out into nature when it becomes too much. Melodramatic? Maybe. But it's who I am. In spite of this, I try to see hope and beauty in everything around me. Some days it's easier than others...
My world revolves around my wonderful husband Tom and my new beautiful son Ian. I enjoy spending time with them more than anything and I feel like the luckiest woman on Earth :) In my not-so-spare time I'm finishing up my Master of Social Work degree and hope to graduate next spring. :D

My Interests

Traveling ~ whether it is a drive into the country locally or a trip across the world, Spirituality, holistic health and healing, Reiki, reading, capturing the always enticing but elusive nap, walking in the woods, activism of various types, meditating, gardening, herbs, veganism, horseback riding, scuba diving, drawing/sketching...

Passionate about the following: improving organic standards, corporate responsibility, zero population growth/population reduction, against factory farms, against horse slaughter, ending homelessness, pro-choice, peace & nonviolence, animal welfare, freedom of and from religion/religious tolerance, separation of church and state, human rights

I'd like to meet:

I welcome kindred spirits into my experience and value learning from others and sharing in the lives and paths of everyone I meet...I really enjoy people who are not afraid to be who they are (whatever that may mean personally for them), who try not to judge others and allow them to be who they are also...

Everyone I wrote in the "hero" section would be amazing to meet...

What is a Pagan-

When one defines oneself as Pagan, it means she or he follows an earth or nature religion, one that sees the divine manifest in all creation. The cycles of nature are our holy days, the earth is our temple, its plants and creatures our partners and teachers...we respect life, cherish the free will of sentient beings, and accept the sacredness of all creation. ~Edain McCoy

Towards A True Balance by John P. Rogers -

Be mindful! Husband the earth. Protect her from greed and violence. Build humbly, plant trees, grow flowers and clothe her with dignity. Respect all her creatures. Honour her natural laws and the universe which cradles her. Above all, heartily worship the Source of All That Is.

This world needs secret heroes! Be brave, speak the truth, heal the sick, make peace. Be strong, serve patiently, love generously, live simply. Enjoy fellowship, eat and drink modestly, walk often, cycle and recycle. Be thrifty, prefer cashflow to possession, give good measure. Let your work be your prayer.

Put on the whole armour of light! Unearth the beauty in everything. Inhale the Spirit of Goodness. Kindle kindness, especially toward yourself, embracing the sweet silence of your own soul. Fear nothing. Accept what you are and - while you have breath - give thanks.

~*Our mind is capable of passing beyond the dividing line we have drawn for it. Beyond the pairs of opposites of which the world consists, other, new insights begin.~* - Herman Hesse

"This is what you shall do: Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to everyone that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body." --Walt Whitman, from Leaves of Grass

"Once there is a certain degree of Presence, of still and alert attention in human beings' perceptions, they can sense the divine life essence, the one indwelling consciousness or spirit in every creature, every life-form, recognize it as one with their own essence and so love it as themselves. Until this happens, however, most humans see only the outer forms, unaware of their own essence and identify only with their own phsyical and psychological form." -Eckart Tolle, from A New Earth
