Poets & Painters was founded by Ms. Phoenyx Reign, the owner & CEO of NuReign ProductionZ. It was originally launched as a tribute to National Poetry Month in April of 2006. The showcase quickly grew in popularity and is gaining national recognition on the arts scene.
Poets & Painters East is the Flagship of the ground-breaking Poets & Painters Showcase. Itâ€™s the place where truth tellers and truth seekers convene for the ultimate display of ancient arts. As a poet takes the stage, the painter creates a visual interpretation of the performance. Blending this into perfect synergy is a live band, and feature vocalists. With a lineup of professional independent artists, as well as unknown newcomers all on one stage, it is an exercise in artistic improvisation and a collaborative showcase never before seen. It is truly, the best of the best! Poets & Painters East has become a â€œMovementâ€ in the arts community and itâ€™s founder, envisions that it will do for the arts what Def Comedy has done for Stand Up, and Def Poetry for Spoken Word. Her goal is to bring global attention to grassroots independent artists. Reign, along with several of the artists from the Poets & Painters lineup have already been filmed for an upcoming documentary entitled â€œSoul In The Cityâ€ about the underground independent arts movement by filmmaker Jermaine Davis.
Only six months after launching Poets & Painters as a tribute to National Poetry Month, in April of 2006, the East Coast show found a solid home at Mayorga Coffee Factory in the heart of the downtown Silver Spring, MD arts district and ran during the year of 2007.
As many of the featured artists attain mainstream appeal and commercial recognition, the name of Poets & Painters has grown with them and has already garnered local and national media attention. So much so that artists from across the nation have travelled to DC to grace the Poets & Painters Stage. The East Coast show, which formerly took place on the 2nd Saturday of each month, is now on Hiatus as we prepare for the groundbreaking launch of Poets & Painters WEST 2008 in Sacramento, CA.
During the summer of 2006 an important connection began as noted artist and soul singer Will Whitlock became a mentor and collaborator to Poets & Painters Founder and CEO, Phoenyx Reign.
Believing in the movement and building on this growing business relationship, in October of 2006, Will Whitlock traveled east to further lend his support by becoming an active part of the Poets & Painters Family. This journey sparked interest and attracted the attention of several west coast arts communities and generated inquires about the showcase coming to the west. In the spirit and vision of the flagship east coast show, NuReign Productionz headed by Ms. Phoenyx Reign and Whitlock Entertainment headed by Will Whitlock have joined forces to break more ground by launching Poets & Painters West!
The stage is already set for Poets & Painters West to exceed the success and winning formula of Poets & Painters East. With feature artist from the Flagship showcase already onboard to make the journey and join in the launch of the west coast show, Poets & Painters West 2008 launch is highly anticipated to be a red carpet celebrity event. Artists on the west coast have been watching this movement from afar and listening to the buzz, while eagerly awaiting their opportunity to grace the Poets & Painters stage. That time has come. Poets & Painters West is the first stop on the International Itinerary of Poets & Painters!
