Radical classics with a modern twist

About Me

B and D re-publish some of the classic texts of radical thought with a contemporary essay to bring them right up to date.
MILTON AND THE MODERN MEDIA
"A media gem" - Global Journalism Review.
John Milton is famous for his epic work Paradise Lost.
In 1644 he wrote a pamphlet attacking plans to license printing presses. He argued that the fledgling Cromwellian democracy needed a free press.
The pamphlet, called "Aeropagitica:For the Liberty of Unlicensed Printing" is reproduced here in full.
Milton's words are preceded by a 52 page essay written in 2005. Journalist and academic Granville Williams shows how the 17th century text is relevant in todays atmosphere of spin and media control.

THE DARKER THE NIGHT, THE BRIGHTER THE STARS
Friedrich Schlotterbeck was a German worker who opposed the Nazis from 1933 to 1945.
This moving book, translated by Edward Fitgerald, tells of his battle against brutality in the streets of Germany and the huts of a concentration camp.
There is a forward by Rodney Bickerstaffe, one of the UK's leading public sector trades unionists.
These books would make great presents for anyone interested in the traditions of radical thought and struggle.
