Aussie Guitar legend Phil Emmanuel has put together a guitar orientated show that is guaranteed to leave concert goers with a sever case of jaw-drop. This show pays homage to the electric guitar as an instrument which shaped commercial music over the last 50 years. To this day the electric guitar is still the most versatile instrumental instrument in the history of modern music. This show is a nostalgic musical journey through the commercial life so far, of the electric guitar. Phil Emmanuel has now been playing guitar for 47 years and would like audiences to hear where it all came from.
The entire first half of the show features the music of “The Shadowsâ€. “The Shadows†were the most successful and influential instrumental band of the 60’s and 70’s, their timeless melodies are as popular today as they were 40 years ago. “The Shadows†lead guitarist, Hank B. Marvin was a true innovator of that era. Many of today’s guitar hero’s were influenced by Hank, Eric Clapton, Brian May, Mark Knopfler, Phil and Tommy Emmanuel, plus many more. It was the haunting echo sound of Hank’s “Apache†that made a then 7 year old Phil Emmanuel take up the electric guitar. From that time onwards Phil has played guitar forging a career spanning 47 years. During that time he has shared the stage with many international stars including Jimmy Barnes, Tammy Wynette, Leon Russell, Little River Band, INXS, Midnight Oil, Dolly Parton, Dire straits, Duanne Eddy, The Ventures, Santana, The Doobie Brothers, Tom T. Hall, Charlie Pride, Willie Nelson, to name but a few. Phil even stole half a bottle of Wild Turkey from Bob Dylan in Sydney’s State Theatre in 1993 (sorry Bob). Along with his Band, Phil will be playing all the timeless hits of “The Shadowsâ€. So many in fact, that many of them are put into Medley’s three at a time. Audiences are guaranteed to hear all of their favourite hits played with the same authentic tone and precision of “The Shadowsâ€.
The second half of this amazing show is a real feast for connoisseurs of guitar music. It features tracks by the ventures, Duanne Eddy, Chet Atkins and Dire Straits. Phil gets to really show his astounding ability on the fret-board, covering all styles from classical to country, to heavy rock.
Because of its broad musical spectrum, this show appeals to young and old alike.
Combined with state of the art light and sound, this show is the best, most physically entertaining event in Australia and should not be missed at any cost.
