About Me


Wu Pu-Yu
started learning the piano at the age of five. She studied under Mrs. Liu Chi-Shin, Mr. Guo Chang-Yang, Mr.David Saidenberg (Russian American), Mrs. Liu Zheng-Rong and Ms. Lu Xue-Ying. At the age of nine she started the flute, studying under Mrs. Yang Shu-Chu, Mrs. Song Li-Man. During Wuling High School, she won the first prize in the school piano competition. Afterwards PU-Yu entered the Soochow University and majoredin piano and flute. While in Australia, she has studied jazz and improvisation with Mr. Colin Loughnan, from Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
After the marriage, Pu-Yu moved to Australia and formed the instrumental duet "Jade" with husband Parris Macleod, performing primarily original compositions. You can often see them perform in many places in Australian, including several great music festivals.
With significant acclaim, Pu-Yu has been invited to perform in many music festivals, such as: Bellingen Global Carnival, Insomnia Rock Festival, Wintermoon Folk Festival, Hawkesbury National Fiddle Festival, WOMADelaide World Music Festival and so on.. In an article reviewing WOMADelaide, the critics from The Adelaide Advertiser described her performance as .....the delicious flute playing of Pu-Yu Macleod......
Prior to 1998, Pu-Yu held the post of Taoyuan Philharmonic Orchestra musical first flute, the Dandelion Flute Ensemble orchestra's first flute and bass flute, for the tour around in Taiwan. In 1998, she held the first individual piano solo recital in the Soochow University concert hall. In 2000, Pu-Yu obtained the YAMAHA teaching certificate and during this period teaching in Taiwan, she conducted regular student public concerts.
In 2002, as an international special guest, Pu-Yu was invited to participate in the Australian Tamworth Country Music Festival, becoming the local music festival performance patron. In 2005, Pu-Yu is invited to participate, with vocalist Annalisa Kerrigan, in the AFAP charity concert. In the same year, she publishes her first personal classical piano album, "Chromatic Fantasy", and established "The Reason to Breathe" quartet - conducting an eastern Australian tour at end of year.
In May, 2006, Pu-Yu was invited to perform, with London's Australian pianist and composer, Tom Donald, in a world premier of Tom's flute work "One Tree Hill". In September 2006, together with Mark Atkins and Parris Macleod, the trio are invitated to perform in South Korea's Jeonju Sori Festival and Jarasum Festival.
In addition, Pu-Yu also performs on many albums and theme music, for example: Daryl Melbourne's "The Kelly Gang", Scott Thomas' "Bohemian", and "Didge Odyssey", featuring both Mark Atkins and Jade. Mark Atkins and Jade are now called Opal Road.
