Radar

In simple summary, I am a semi retired keyboard player and music journalist living in the Illawarra region of NSW. Nickname "Radar". Started in the music scene in 1978. Ran a website "Mr Blues Online Haven" then "Radars Blues & Graphics" 1996 - 2003, conducting Blues related CD reviews and an email newsletter. Was a music writer/editor/reviewer in the early 80's for Picton News, Camden Crier, Macarthur Advertiser, Campbelltown News and a few small street mags then in the early 90's for the now defunct Illawarra street mag "Pulse of the Illawarra" covering a variety of music styles and interviews. Most recent live work over the years was with Harry Athannas in The Boogiemen. Prior gigs with Chris Mullin, also 2 years Cabaret playing the part of Charlie Chaplin at Morticia's. Late 70's and early 80's knocked around in a few small bands and duos, hanging out and sometimes tinkling the ivories with Mad Gorilla. Had a break for about 8 years before moving to the Wollongong area and slowly easing back into the scene. Resident judge for many band comps, talent quests and the like since 1980, including 3 years as one of the judges for MusicOz. Spent some years doing part time web design and CD/Poster artwork, now 'enjoying' home renovating and doing video editing as a hobby and attending a few good gigs around the traps when time permits. Completed computer and IT studies in 2003, then joined the public service. Awarded the "Services to the Blues" Award by Sydney Blues Society in 2000. Not fussed anymore about playing live, and much prefer to jam away at a party and have a blast than lug around night after night from gig to gig. But it was fun until it became a job. Would I ever go back to performing live? Maybe, but at the moment I am enjoying being on the spectator side of the fence for a change. And so on...
