The Global Marijuana March (GMM) is the name given to the many annual international pro-cannabis rallies and marches that take place on or around each first Saturday of May. Started by Cures-Not-Wars founder Dana Beal, what once started as a tradition in New York City has grown to over 200 participating cities world-wide. Every year, the North Carolina Cannabis Association organizes a rally and free concert for the Global Marijuana March in downtown Raleigh on or near the grounds of the North Carolina State Capitol Building. The rally is a fun and peaceful gathering through which pro-cannabis supporters from all backgrounds and political viewpoints can put aside their differences and come together to put an end to unfair and unjust cannabis laws. Much help is needed from volunteers and donors to ensure that the Raleigh Global Marijuana March continues to grow.

The North Carolina Cannabis Association is a state-wide interactive network of member organizations and volunteers that are in opposition to current local, state and federal cannabis laws. Organized in the spirit of the Million Marijuana March, the NCCA provides an outlet for local grassroots organizations, North Carolina based organizations, and national organizations active in North Carolina. To provide an equal forum for all, the NCCA does not take any specific issue with cannabis. Instead, the NCCA takes the general position that current cannabis laws need to be changed in the direction of decriminalization and legalization. The North Carolina Cannabis Association works to accomplish these goals by simply supporting the public awareness of cannabis issues, news, and activism.

HOW TO HELP OUT:

Spreading the word
Since advertising is often very costly, the North Carolina Cannabis Association asks that volunteers spread awareness of the annual Raleigh Global Marijuana March through word of mouth, flyer hand-outs, and other low cost means. Volunteers may print out flyers (click thumbnail below) for distribution to family, friends, and strangers alike.

Helping with the music & entertainment
If you are able to help with the music or entertainment in any way, please contact Jeff at nc_ca at hotmail dot com. This includes: being in a band, knowing a band, having equipment, having experience with audio systems, etc.
Painting the NCSU & Duke free expression tunnel
Every year prior to the Million Marijuana March, volunteers are needed to help paint the NCSU free expression tunnel and the Duke free expression tunnel. Many college students are pro-cannabis, activists, or both; a great way to reach these individuals is by painting the tunnels with information about the upcoming Million Marijuana March along with cannabis-friendly art. If you want to help, contact Jeff at nc_ca at hotmail dot com or message us on MySpace.
Setting up and cleaning up
It may not be the most fun work, but volunteer assitance setting up and cleaning up is always needed. If you think you are up to the challenge, message us to arrange a plan of action.
Increasing media publicity & coverage
If you have any special media connections, please contact us to discuss. (newspapers, newsletters, journals, magazines, radio, television, Internet, etc.)
