Peer support and adventure for young breast cancer survivors

About Me

Let us know you came to visit. Sign our guest book!!

What if breast cancer is just the start of an incredible journey? Take up the challenge of an Amazon Heart Adventure and develop lifelong friendships with other breast cancer survivors from across the globe. Celebrate life and change the world through advocacy, fundraising and local community projects. Amazon Heart was founded in 2004 by two young breast cancer survivors, Megan Dwyer and Meredith Campbell. Our adventures provide breast cancer survivors with a life changing experience, while creating wider social impact in local communities. For the women taking part, our events are an amazing opportunity to share their experiences with other survivors and further their own journey of emotional and psychological healing after breast cancer. Each event also has a unique social impact, either through direct community service as part of the event, or raising funds for community projects. Most importantly, they are about coming together, celebrating living life fully and having a fantastic time. http://www.amazonheart.org/

My Interests

It saddens me to pass on the news that another Amazon Angel has been called home to get her wings. Carolyn Parsons Hackett, ACT Australia, entered paradise Saturday April 19, 2008.Carolyn was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 39 in February of 2005. She participated in Amazon Hearts Odyssey to India in December of 2006.She wrote in her profile before the trip "Confronting cancer has made me enjoy the moment more and realize that many people have far greater challenges than me. Now, eighteen months later, and back in full-time work, my situation has instigated another assessment of what is important to me. I believe the world needs repairing on many levels and I want to make a small difference."And a difference she certainly made. Diagnosed one month after returning from our Odyssey to India she was diagnosed with metastasis to the lungs. Carolyn was so moved by her trip to India with Amazon Heart she went back to the girls village to spend Christmas with the kids there. She made a personal donation of A$4000 as well as raising an additional A$3000 in donations for the 2007 Odyssey to India even though she was unable to make the trip.A truly amazing and compassionate young woman has left us far too soon.Carolyn you are loved and will be missed. Until we meet again sister. To read about Carolyn you can follow the link to http://www.amazonheart.org/AHOdyssey/carolynparsons.htm

Ventura Harley-Davidson's 2nd anual Heels and Wheels all women motorcycle ride benfiting Amazon Heart.

.. Join Us in 2007!!! In 2004 twenty young breast cancer survivors challenged themselves to a 1,000 mile ride on Harley-Davidson motorcycles up the beautiful California coast. Along the way they formed life long friendships, gained support and strength in dealing with their breast cancer experience, and raised vital funds for and awareness of breast cancer issues. The first ride, called "Changing Gears", expanded in 2005 to become a Global Relay with 1,000 mile rides in the United Kingdom, United States and Australia, involving 48 young breast cancer survivors from around the world. In 2006 three rides again rolled out across the world with a new name - Amazon Heart Thunder - as part of Amazon Heart's range of adventures for breast cancer survivors. 2007, are you ready for Amazon Heart??? Amazon Heart Odyssey takes groups of breast cancer survivors to disadvantaged communities around the world for one week construction projects that make a real difference to the lives of the local people, and provide a unique challenge and cultural experience for participants. Each year Amazon Heart Odyssey heads to different locations around the world. Each day of these amazing adventures is a celebration of their journey through breast cancer, as well as a powerful inspiration to the thousands of other women diagnosed each year. Amazon Heart Expedition - Arizona 2007

I'd like to meet:

Young survivors with free spirits and adventurous souls. Any one surviving/living with breast cancer. Any one supporting someone with breast cancer. Anyone with breast cancer looking for support. Anyone advocating for breast cancer awareness in young women.
