I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I live on the Isle of Lewis with my husband Ian and my son Kieran on a croft wit Paddy our horse, ducks, chickens, and Snookies, the cat. I've got a daughter Robynne, who lives in Glasgow currently. She's a mad fiddler with this purple electric fiddle...I teach meditation and currently there's a small meditation group that meets up regularly.Take a look at my website: Hebridean-Life.com

Check out the tune on my profile - it's my brother "Electric Minstrel"'s composition!

And yes, I know... a Floridian in Lewis, just doesn't make sense! I must be mad, huh?

My Interests

Buddhism, meditation, crofting, chickens, ducks, green lifestyle, traditional Celtic music (play the wooden flute), Gaelic, glaiketness.

Used to write comedy many years ago - managed to even get some sketches on Hale and Pace (who?)... had started writing as wanted to be an 'actore' and needed an equity card but no jobs so wanted to create my own work... never got the equity card. Had babies instead.

I'd like to meet:

No one specific, but do like to meet up with friends for a natter or to meditate together.

Music:

Capercaillie, Eddi Reader, Lunasa, Ella Fitzgerald, Runrig, Mozart, Talking Heads, The Corries, Wynton Marsalis, Mike McGoldrick, Conal O'Grada, wooden Irish flute music, Old Blind Dogs

Movies:

O Brother, Where art Thou?
"Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter... And Spring"
The Life of Brian
Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Television:

Ray Mears 'Wild Food', various documentaries, not much else as TV seems to be really banal these days with reality and celebrity competitions.

Books:

Meditation, by Kamalashila, Wild Mind by Bodhipaksa, But Little Dust by Padmasuri, currently reading "The Yearling" by Marjory Kinnan Rawlings - now a 'classic' that kids in the US are made to read for High School English and get tested on. What an excellent way to put folks off a good read - make them do it for English!

Heroes:

The Buddha, Sangharakshita, Dr Ambedkar, Mahaprajapati (the first Buddhist woman!) and ordinary people who do extraordinary things everyday.

My Blog

All is quiet now...

Don't quite know what to do with myself.  Yesterday, Ian went offshore and the day before that, my parents went back to the US after staying here a month. The house is quiet after two days of lea...

It's a lovely day on Lewis!

Well, Ian and I did the deed on May 14th, as you can see in the profile pic.  We got married at the Stornoway Town Hall Register Office, then went to the Castle Grounds to get pics taken - which ...

Back from Cambridge

The weather was brilliant in Cambridge - didn't even need a jacket!  I went down initially to Birmingham (got promptly lost and was late - too many roundabouts and ring roads!) to see Sangharaksh...

Goin doon ta Cambridge

Hasn't it been glorious weather lately - just right and no midges?  Funny how it makes you forget the massive gales of just a few weeks ago. I can just kid myself that it will be great forever.&n...

First Blog Post

Hi Folks!  This is my first entry on this thing.  It's been glorious Spring weather lately, which means I've had to get on and do jobs outside that I would rather avoid - namely stable and c...
