About Me
Born to an Irish father and Jersey French mother, Innes was brought up in many places around the world. Living nowhere, for more than three years during childhood, he developed a love for travelling.
In the late 80's, he moved to Scotland and based himself here between travels, upon finding "a house on a hill", he was able to establish a more permanent base and set up a project studio, from which he writes and records today. He feels unhindered by his lack of cultural heritage, taking the view that he is able to draw from the experience of many, rather than, be bound, by any, particular, one.
His musical life started in the folk world, playing in military venues whilst living in Cyprus. Not really ever a folk musician as such, but interested in gaining live experience, he played often and was a frequent support act for touring artists, such as Hamish Imlach and Fred Wedlock. In 85 he played with a newly formed band at SB aid the Cypriot link to Live Aid.He was 15 years of age.
86 brought Innes to London where brother Paul introduced him to Jazz music dragging him frequently to Ronnie Scotts, seeing many of the worlds leading jazz musicians, playing all night every night....growing ever thinner... and more bearded!
Certainly influenced by jazz and the spirit of improvisation, he was however, not prepared to commit to any one kind of music. For the next decade or so he, withdrew from live performance, concentrating on song writing and learning to engineer/produce and record material.
A brief incarnation as a voice over artist, commissioned by DMA Design,( later to become Rockstar North) on the very successfull GTA 11 and GTA 111, lead him back towards live perfomance.
As well as his own project,"the Little People" a three piece outfit, which thrived on musical tangents and diversity, he played/sessioned for many different kinds of bands. Singer and percussionist for Dundee based Jazz fusion band "Head On" whislt simutaneously playing bass for Kenny Anderson,(later to become King Kreasote), Kate Tunstall and various other Scottish artists.
After working with up to four acts at a time, for two or three years, he became a reluctant teacher of guitar, Bass guitar, and Drums/percussion, in order to pursue, and further his own composition.
In 2005 Innes, was introduced to West African drum rythmns through the Awe inspiring talents of Nansady Kheta, Baba Kone and Mockoulo Sawame.Get your layout at Profile Ave
