Intangibles are generally regarded as pertaining to a colloquial expression for qualities in a group of individuals which affect performance but are not readily observable. They are often cited as a reason for performance which is surprisingly better or worse than expected. such has proven true on many occasions for members of the Intangible Spoken Word Collective.
The Intangibles are a group of spoken word poets comprised primarily of alumni and present members of the Oneonta State Poetry Slam Team. Their roots go back to the early days of the Big O Poetry Slam Series, which was started by Rob Thaibualt in 2001. Oneonta State has sent a team to ACUI nationals for six consecutive years now, making it to semi-finals nearly every time. They have also made finals twice and took second place in 2005 at West Chester University.
In August 2005 The Black Oak Tavern sent the very first Oneonta Poetry Slam Team the PSI-Hosted National Poetry Slam held in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They ranked 43rd their first year out, and just barely missed making semi-finals in 2006. In 2007 Team Oneonta was awarded with the Spirit of the Slam Award after being disqualified for letting Team Knoxville perform in their slot. For the full story; check out our blog.
As a group, the Intangibles compete regularly at locals slams, try to do as many featured shows as they can, and eat dinner together on Wednesday nights. They also host a number of different poetry workshops at high school's and colleges all around Central New York.
