Marcelo Vianna

Singer, actor and brazilian composer

About Me

Marcelo Vianna is a singer, composer and actor. He is the grandson of the talented Pixinguinha and as an artist carries with him his grandfather’s musical heritage. In 1995, he began his solo career as a singer, sharing the stage with Paulinho da Viola in the Encontros Notáveis (Remarkable Encounters) project, at Teatro Rival, as well as performing in the Festival Internacional de Arte Negra (Black Arts International Festival), in Belo Horizonte.

In 1998 he was João Nogueira's special guest in the Novo Canto (New Chant) festival. On the same year, he hosted and was accompanied by Baden Powell, in Sala Funarte. Powell then classified him as "one more talented artist from the Vianna family, a very good singer". In 1999, he was a semi-finalist for the Visa Prize - Vocal Edition.

In april 2002, he released his first record, Teu nome, Pixinguinha by the Biscoito Fino Label. The repertoire of the record, besides including a number of pearls by his grandfather, also revealed to the public inedited compositions written by Paulo César Pinheiro. Furthermore, artists such as João Nogueira, Jaques Morelembaum, Pedro Luís, Rita Ribeiro and Dom Um Romão took part in the record. This work conferred him a nomination for the Rival BR Prize for Brazilian Popular Music.

The first concert of his new project took place in 2004 at BNDES. Marcelo performs compositions by Baden Powell and Paulo César Pinheiro, including some inedited songs. In the year that followed his work completed ten years and he recorded this repertoire on a CD, which will be released in the first term of 2007. At the same period he'll be returning to the studios to record his own repertoire.
