Rosie and The Goldbug, hailing from Cornwall, are a rising band of piano, bass and drums and one almighty voice carried in the petite frame of lead singer Rosie Vanier. Original, haunting, brandishing influences from Arcade Fire, Muse, Siouxsie and The Banshees and Edgar Allan Poe. they have been variously described as a "Prozac-ingesting mix of Tory Amos, Cabaret's Sally Bowles, and an even more out-there Muse","Kate Bush on crack" and "Cats on Acid".
Music Week - 'Rosie & The Goldbug echo the influence of Sigur Ross and Arcade Fire, all haunting piano progressions, spooky vocals and strong melody. Hailing from Cornwall, they are one of the most original unsigned bands set to grace the Red Stripe stages this far.
NME - 'Fusing Dresdon Dolls with the songs of Phantom of the opera, Rosie is more often than not seen bashing the shite out of her piano with her elbows. You'd be stupid not to catch her.
Freetime - '...A three-piece consisting of drums, bass guitar and one almighty voice carried in the petite frame of lead singer and keyboardest Rosie Vanier. They describe their soud as Kate Bush fronting Muse and the comparison will follow the band, although I feel it is a disservice to Vanier. Her voice moves effortlessly from seductive whispers to banshee wails that leaves you wondering if you have stumbled into a stage show of Cats on acid. Morgans drumming was first rate and allowed Vanier to wow the crowd with her vaudeville theatrics and sumptuous vocal range. ...these guys are going somewhere and they are delighting crowds on their way.'
Stranger Mag - Rosie and the Goldbug promised us a show at Porthtown’s Blue Bar, and a show we got... “YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE!†Rosie Vanier shouts before thrashing around encouragingly in front of her keyboard, sleek hair and hot-pants shaking. The bassist, a strange little man dressed all in black walks his pointy-toed boots forwards then backwards, purposefully and with a perfectly straight face. The theatrical drummer pauses for effect before bashing out another awe-inspiring crescendo. This is Rosie and the Goldbug and they promise to give you a show. Carnivalesque keyboard, fierce drums and rolling bass are first haunted by Rosie’s operatic soprano then taunted by her vigorous shouts. The band switch from high-energy crowd pleasers to melancholy songs about ghosts with ease, bringing on a cellist intermittently to add atmosphere. The initially hard-to-impress crowd in the Porthtowan Blue Bar are easily won over by the band’s enthusiasm, talent and theatrics, and everyone cheers when Rosie, grinning, plays the keyboard with elbows, toes and arse, before flouncing around unreservedly in an attempt to get the crowd dancing. Tricks and gimmicks aren’t needed to hold the crowd’s interest, but the stage draped in fairy lights, flowers and butterflies along with the band members’ carefully considered style and presence add to the overall effect of accomplished entertainment. A strikingly charismatic front woman, Rosie is a cross between Kate Bush and Karen O and there is something incredibly compelling about the whole band. Their enthusiasm is infectious, and by shouting their high-pitched lyrics over the sound of a purposefully discordant keyboard it is easy to imagine Rosie and the Goldbug captivating audiences a hundred times bigger than this one. (Chelsey Flood)
Evening Herald - 'A bunch of deranged-looking individuals who look not unlike human extras for Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas, the band present their music as a wild theatrical show, switching from hi-energy crowd pleasers to ballads of haunting melancholy. Rosie herself, a completely compelling frontwoman, is already renowned for her ability to attack the piano not only with her fingers, but also elbows, toes and derriere, screeching one minute, purring the next and delivering note perfect operatic falsetto thereafter. However weird and wonderful, for Rosie, it’s what comes naturally.
West Britton - '...I was amazed ... this Launceston trio left me dumb struck. Led by pianist and singer Rosie Vanier, they come on like a Prozac-ingesting mix of Tori Amos, Cabaret Sally Bowles and an even more out-there Muse. Looking like the deranged older sister of Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, the screaming, preening Rosie is a star waiting to be discovered by the world. I could quite happily watch her thwack those piano keys with her elbows and heels every night.'
Freetime - '...she is probably the best "front-person" I have ever seen in a Cornish band - a gothic (in the true sense of the word) mix of Kate Bush, Dorothy from the Wizard of OZ and some curly-toed screamer from Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas. And she sure can sing....'
Cornish Live Gig Review - 'Well what can you say? This certainly was different! Visually in a league of their own this evening, and performance-wise; certainly memorable. The lead vocals were straight from the Kate Bush songbook with a touch of the PJ Harveys about them and using both your elbows and feet to play a keyboard could be considered a little unusual, (unless you`d seen Lennon at Shea).'
Hysteria Mag - 'They decided to blow the proverbial minds of the crowd with a bit of piano-driven bass-laden carnival-rock. An awesome show and a fantastic frontwomen, great vocal range that you don't really see coming in some places.'
SW1 Productions – ‘They opened the proceedings with front woman Rosie Vanier and co brandishing their unique sounds and costumes, captivating the audience from the off!’--
