Biography :-
I have been producing music for 3 years, composing music for 5 years and playing and performing music for over 12 years. I am currently involved in writing music for TV and Short Animations, as well as my own music for various projects and soon a couple of bands.
Generally speaking I got into playing music at a young age when I started playing recorder and singing in the school choir. I then started bashing away at the piano from about 8 or 9 before getting lessons for a couple of years. Around 12 or 13 I got very bored of music and got very interested in computers and technology and I leaned away from all things musical for almost 3 years. Over this time I was always surrounded by music though and when I was 15/16 I picked up the bass guitar.
I started practicing with friends and joined the various bands that were going on. As with all young bands nothing much really developed and these bands soon fell apart. To try and make my own headway with my music I decided to try and go solo, doing a singer/songwriter type vibe on acoustic guitar. I played my first gig after playing guitar for 7 weeks, I enjoyed it so much I decided to carry on music into college, taking up a BTEC National Diploma in Music Practice.
At this stage I was well behind most other performers as they had been playing throughout their early teens while I had been geeking out on a computer in my room, in the dark! Realizing this but not wanting to give up I desperately started practicing everything I could to catch up. An eventful 2 years followed, learning guitar, bass, piano and vocals as well as more production skills.
Halfway through my time at college I picked up a job that helped me earn lots of money to expand my musical arsenal and buy equipment to start building my own home studio. Gaining more interest in recording myself as well as others I tried to get involved in some production. Around this time I also started volunteering at a local music venue where I learnt a lot from the staff and the bands that worked and performed there.
By the time I finished college, emerging with a triple distinction and a Grade 5 theory Merit. I decided I would take what I had learnt and move over to learning composition in University. Having a keen interest develop in writing different kinds of music after realizing the potential of more classical based instruments.
I took a course in Composition and Technology at the University of Hertfordshire. I wanted to expand my knowledge of music and hopefully get writing a lot of music for multimedia such as film and TV. However as the course began I felt it was not where I wanted to be or study so after much thought decided to switch to another University that more suited my needs.
I applied to the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford on to a Music Production course thinking I would learn more from this course than I would from a composition course. So far I feel I have made the right choice with lots of great opportunities around me and plenty to get stuck into I hope to come out the other side of this course with a lot more experience, musical ability and hopefully a job in the music industry!
