The Game, The Legend...Grab someone you know and ask them to describe their top five favorite arcade games of the '80s. The most common responses will usually include vague descriptions of Defender, Centipede, Pac-Man, or Donkey Kong, but memories of one game in particular always seem to be as vivid as the first day it was played: Galaga.Introduced in 1981 as a sequel to Galaxian, Galaga still enjoys widespread popularity today despite its age. In addition to original machines that still pull in quarters, the current "retro-gaming" phenomenon has introduced a whole new wave of fans to it, as well as its sequel, Gaplus (a.k.a Galaga 3). Another sequel, Galaga '88, was released, as well as a 3-D sequel to Galaxian called Galaxian 3. Years later, a version of Galaga appeared in one of the Namco Arcade Classic machines.The team that created Galaga was also responsible for programming Bosconian. Two members of the team (Akira Takundai and Hurashi Nagumo) also collaborated on Xevious and the original Galaxian.Of course, any successful product has its imitators, and many bootlegs of the game have appeared under some interesting monikers. Gallag is one of the more common ripoff versions, in addition to the strangely-named Nebulous Bee.

Notes on ScoringThe game only allows you to get 999,990 points as player one before rolling over to zero! However, as player two, you can keep track of another digit, that is 9,999,990 points are possible. But if you want the game to save your high score, it only saves the first 6 digits (999,990 possible). That means if you want to have the top score on the game, die as close to 999,990 points as you can. If you roll over, (even as player two), the game will only register your last 6 digits of points (note: your score immediately before rollover, 997,000+, will remain as the game's "high score" at the top). A score of 1,234,560 points will prompt you to register your name for achieving only 234,560 points. What a rip off!
BONUS STAGE A

BONUS STAGE H- THE LAST BOUNUS STAGEIf your fighter gets captured by a galaga's tractor beam, and you have a spare fighter, try to rescue your ship! If you do, you'll have two fighters side-by-side. This is extremely helpful for getting perfect scores on the bonus stages, since you have double the firepower! Its possible to get a perfect score without double firepower, but having it certainly helps!
