The stephendALIENS were a band based in a home (that's home as in most of us live there, not in the sense of an institution) for people with learning disabilities.Here's how we came about: Arlo took Joan and Brian to a gig by and for people with learning disabilities, Arlo thought it was brilliant, Joan did too and had to be prevented from rushing the stage as she wanted to perform so bad, she enjoyed it so much that at one point she sidled out of her wheelchair, climbed round the back and using it to balance began some of the funkiest dancing Arlo had ever seen though he didn't see much of it as he had to sit in said wheelchair to prevent a huge dance-related catastrophe. Brian enjoyed it immesely too. It got Arlo thinking he should get more involved so he e-mailed the guy who had put the gig on and said it would be good if we could all get involved. This led to an invitation for Arlo to join the band that had played and for some of us to go down to a music improv session that he regularly held. So Arlo and Sylvia went down and had a great time between them Sylvia hitting Arlo's guitar with maracas while Arlo did the fingering of some chords. And it was these two events which led to the idea that we could do similar. So we did and we had a lot of fun.Unfortunatly there won't be any more StephendALIENS tunes because I (Arlo) moved on to another job and working with the guys on the music became problematic for a number of reasons. I loved the stuff we did together and will still keep in touch with the guys and hopefully finally get round to finishing the profiles in the blog with them though some of them have been and are quite ill at the moment.We still want you to be our friends though.Regards, The StephendALIENS.
