BEATSTREET SOUND

About Me

Almost 10 years ago there were 2 soundsystems in Leuven: Roots Connection, with T-Fire and Sensademus, and Gun Salute Sound, with Johnny Lexman and Shaman. While Roots Connection focused on conscious reggae music, Gun Salute Sound, who were part of hiphop crew Menaz, concentrated more on dancehall. In 1999 they united forces and Unitone sound was born, but it didn’t last long. After Shaman left the sound, T-Fyah, Sensademus and Johnny Lexman formed Beatstreet sound. As part of the Menaz crew, Beatstreet not only played at reggae dances, but also at hip hop gigs, where they equally mashed up the parties in a real Jamaican style and fashion. In 2003, when Menaz fell apart, they went their own way and hiphop dj Ulterior joined them, increasing Beatstreet’s versatility.
