DJ Funkstar was born in 1985 in Paramaribo, Surinam.
Being a child from a mixed marriage, he was always influenced by many different genres of music. From an early age he listened to pop, reggae and dancehall, rock, latin and of course the Surinamese bigi pokoe! After taking drumlessons for a couple of years, he learned himself to play the guitar.
His love for music, results in his passion to spin the decks and entertain. He started his DJ carreer at local school parties. After High School, he moves to Delft, to study at the Technical University. It is here where he discovers the real city & club life and is influenced by many musical genres and professional DJs.
In 2005 a local party promoter recieves a mixcd from DJ Funkstar and from then on Funkstar is a regular at JMCs parties. He builds experience at these parties and hypes up the crowd with wild mixes and his own productions.
These own productions got the attention of Anger Management, the management of legendary hip hop and dancehall group AMO-LAB. After AMO-LAB recorded tracks on Funkstars beats, Funkstar and AMO-LAB teamed up and now tour together. Funkstar is also part of XRA, a group of producers, who can work within any musical genre possible. So check out the agenda and see when Funkstar will play in a club near you!
