"Will the circle be unbroken": Stefan Saffer was born in the mid-sixties in then Western Germany in a small town in Northern Bavaria near the former frontier to then GDR. First getting in contact with music when he "borrowed" the Beatles "White Album" from his father at the age of 10. First touched a guitar with 13, first song written one year later! At the age of 16 he started to work as a contemporary Folk-Singer in clubs, bars and streets of his hometown area. After moving to Bamberg in 86 he soon was electrified by garage punk and hardcore. From 88 'til 92 he was leadsinger/guitarman in the STRANDED JAYWALKS, one of the best south-german Garage-Rock-Bands in the 80ties! After they split, Stefan was moving to Berlin for the next five years, where he only worked as an solo-artist in the folk-field again. In 97 he settled down in Leipzig, where he formed the original SAFFER.BAND in 98. They were followed by SAFFER & THE COURTMEN in 2001. With both bands, Saffer played an honest, energy-driven, emotionally-moving Rock'n'Roll with bits and touches of 60ties Soul, C&W and Folk. Also 2001 saw the release of SAFFER's first Solo-Album "The dark frontier", a folk-noire-masterpiece, compared by some critics as "Germany's Nebraska". In 2006 he went on his first solo-tour for years and returned to a more folk-orientated style. In 2007 the circle came to full close when he was the one of the original founders of the Leipzig-based WORLDFOLKMUSIC-CLUB (www.worldfolkmusic-club.de). Out of this monthly live-session for street- and folkmusicians he developed his new, strictly acoustic project: SAFFER & THE JUKES. With his new and fantastic band he presents a two-hour show including traditionals from the American folk and Country-Music, as well as Irish tunes and lots of Saffer-Material, old faves, freshly rearranged and many new songs! On nationwide touring in 2008 with his long expected new Album GERMAN BABYLON!
