5.14.07 FROM CALI' TO JERSEY AT THE BASIE- BRIAN WILSON & BRUCE!
Brian Wilson played Red Bank, NJ Saturday night, for the Beach Bash at the Basie, the Count Basie Theatre's 5th annual gala fundraiser -- and a local hero joined in for some fun, fun, fun. A particular auction item earlier in the evening might have been a tip-off: a Challenger surfboard signed by both Wilson and Bruce Springsteen. The surprise guest spot came during Wilson's encore, when "The Boss!" was introduced for "Barbara Ann." Springsteen played rhythm on a white Les Paul, stepping up for a solo, too, and he shared a mic with the sax player to sing along on the chorus. For the final song, Bruce was back sans guitar to sing harmonies on "Love and Mercy" from Wilson's 1988 self-titled solo debut.

4.13.07 LITTLE STEVEN SPILLS THE BEANS?
You heard it here folks!!! E STREET could be right around the corner... Little Steven tells www.myspace.com/brucespringsteenestreet: "We gotta make a record, which could happen soon. I don't have any reason to say this other than my own instinct, but I just get a vibe it's going to be sooner than later. I spoke with Bruce and there may have been something there. I don't know. But, once it's done, we're very fast. [Springsteen] literally could call me today, we could have a new album out and be on the road within three months."

4.6.07 BRUCE SHOWS UP AT HIS OWN TRIBUTE!
As a hard-rocking, frenetic version of "Atlantic City" performed by The Hold Steady wrapped up the "Tribute to the Music of Bruce Springsteen," a sold-out Carnegie Hall audience was pleasantly surprised as the man to whom 20 artists had previously paid tribute appeared on stage. Benefiting the Music for Youth Initiative of the UJA-Federation of New York, the already-excellent performance was capped as Bruce walked up to the microphone, telling the crowd "I'm still alive!"
Springsteen's performance started with an acoustic guitar and harmonica version of "The Promised Land," pairing the familiar melody with the emotive vocal style used on versions done on the Tom Joad and Devils & Dust tours.
Bruce remained on stage to perform a surprise version of "Rosalita," first solo acoustic, with an improvised story in the middle ("it’s been a long night, and I’m running out of lyric sheets!"), and then again with all of the evening's performers on stage, in all it's full-band glory (house band Elysian Fields clearly knew their Bruce). Lead vocals the second time around were shared by Craig Finn of the Hold Steady, Badly Drawn Boy, and Jesse Malin.
Earlier in the evening, Springsteen collaborators old and new were present to perform: Patti Smith sang "Because the Night," Jesse Malin was joined by Ronnie Spector on "Hungry Heart," and Marah got the crowd into the show early with an energetic performance of "The Rising."

3.39.07 BRUCE TRIBUTE CONCERT SET FOR CARNEGIE HALL
3.23.07 AND THE BIG MAN JOINED THE BAND!!!
The Big Man was honored in his hometown Walk of Fame...
Since 2002, Norfolk, VA has honored local music greats with its Legends of Music Walk of Fame on the Grandby Street sidewalk. Now, Norfolk native Clarence Clemons will join previous inductees like Ella Fitzgerald, Bruce Hornsby, and Pearl Bailey as he gets his own sidewalk medallion next month. On April 18, an induction ceremony will be followed by a free concert at Tidewater Community College's Roper Performing Arts Center. Clarence is scheduled to play, along with a few of his fellow inductees. Read more on the event at www.hamptonroads.com.
3.9.07 BADLANDS---BILLY CHINNOCK - WE'LL MISS YA!
Forty years ago in Asbury Park, a skinny kid with a guitar fronted a band with Danny Federici on organ, Vini Lopez on drums, and Garry Tallent on bass. That kid: Billy Chinnock. When Chinnock left Jersey for Maine, the other guys found their way to Bruce Springsteen. But in Shore bands like the Storytellers, the Downtown Tangiers Band, and Glory Road -- which also featured future E Streeter David Sancious -- Chinnock played with them first.Today, we've learned that he has just died at 59. As reported by Bangor, Maine's WLBZ, Chinnock has taken his own life, after suffering from Lyme disease.
A longtime Maine resident, Chinnock was rightfully honored late last year as one of the Creators of the Sound of Asbury Park (We were there), with a permanent monument on the boardwalk listing his name. But it wasn't just those early years on the Shore for which he's known. Chinnock had a lengthy solo career, with an Emmy to his name, releasing albums numbering in the double digits over the last three decades. He recorded on labels such as Epic, Rounder, and Atlantic (including 1978's Badlands , which came out before Springsteen's Darkness on the Edge of Town), and in later years he established his own label.
So soon after Big Danny Gallagher, another Asbury Park legend is gone. Our hearts go out to Billy's family and friends.
3.3.07 KEEPING YOU'RE FINGERS CROSSED???
Bruce Springsteen currently recording in Colt's Neck with Nils Lofgren? Could it be true? Rumors seem to be true as Nils was spotted nearby. Stay Tuned!!!
2.12.07 Congratulations Bruce on your Grammy
Bruce Springsteen was the winner of two Grammy Awards last night: Best Traditional Folk Album for The Seeger Sessions and Best Long Form Music Video for the "Wings for Wheels: The Making of Born to Run," Bruce Springsteen. Good Job! Hopefully a new E Street record this year will win Next!?
1.31.07 BIG DANNY GALLAGHER, R.I.P.
The Jersey Shore music scene has lost founding father Big Danny Gallagher, who died last week at 58. An Asbury Park native and Upstage fixture, the 6'5" Danny was in the thick of the scene in the late '60s and early '70s, famously playing -- Monopoly! -- in Springsteen's post-Steel Mill band, Dr. Zoom & the Sonic Boom. Decades later, Danny was back on stage with his old friend Bruce when the Tom Joad tour hit Asbury in late 1996, singing ..s from those early days like "Spirit in the Night" and "Sandy." Gallagher was living and performing in Ireland for a time, but he recently returned to the U.S.; he passed away in Colorado, in his sleep, on January 25. According to the Asbury Park Press, a musical memorial service is planned for February 11 at Red Fusion in Asbury. For details as they develop, and for a tribute to the man, visit www.bigdannygallagher.com.
1.26.07 - RE-BORN IN THE USA...
There is a great article from Austraila about people who took a "musical pilgrimage" to Asbury Park, NJ. The same way people flock to Liverpool in search of "Beatles" or anything Beatles. Read it here: http://www.news.com.au/travel/story/0,23483,21116304-27977,0

Happy 57th Birthday Danny Federeci!!!
12.15.06 READ A GREAT BLOG ABOUT THE ALS SHOW ON TUESDAY NIGHT!
It's nights like this when I so much appreciate that I live at the Jersey Shore.
When you can see one of the biggest rock stars in the world, Bruce Springsteen, play an incredible 35-minute set to a theater-sized crowd of 1,400 people, it's just an incredible experience.
And this followed an appearance by another of the world's top rock stars, Jon Bon Jovi.
A 3 hour and 45-minute show ended on such a high that everyone leaving the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, N.J., probably didn't even have to get into their cars to get home, they were floating from a spectacular Bruce Springsteen finale.
There's so much to talk about. It was a benefit in honor of the memory of Joan Dancy, Terry MaGovern's fiancee, to raise money for the PALS (People with ALS) Support Group, with all proceeds to benefit the latter.
The show began at 8:15 p.m. but let's fast forward to 11:25 p.m. when Bruce Springsteen took the stage for the first time of the evening.
Wearing the same cap he wore at the Light of Day show, Bruce put on the electric guitar and broke into a dazzling "Darlington County."
The entire crowd was on its feet as Bruce rocked the joint like it was 1984 again.
Bruce was backed by a group of musicians including Bobby Bandiera on guitar, Kevin Kavanugh on keyboards, Joe Bellia on drums, Neal Pawley on bass, Mr. Popye, Kenny Pentifallo on percussion, Bob Burger on guitar, and what started out as a five-piece horn section (LaBamba, Mark Pender, Curt Ramm, Ed Manion and Joey Stann) and three female backup singers (Lisa Bouchelle, Leyona Holmes and Maureen McCrink).
Next was "Spirit In the Night." Wow! Wow! Wow!
This song with a horn section is phenomenal. Joey Stann did the sax solo parts.
Hearing "Spirit" brought me back to 1976 when I saw Bruce Springsteen for the first time on this exact same stage. The crowd actually took over singing the song from Bruce on the "Well now Hazy Davy got really hurt, he ran into the lake in just his socks and a shirt
Me and Crazy Janey was makin' love in the dirt singin' our birthday songs." part.
It was magical.
Bruce took off his jacket to the approval of the ladies in the house and broke into "Seaside Bar Song."
Bruce came right up to the front of the stage and was rocking the house. he played from one side of the stage to the other. This man looks like he's ready for some E Street Band action soon.
Bruce thanked everyone for coming out to the show and he dedicated the next song to "Terry and Joan."
It was "Waiting on A Sunny Day" which again, sounded great with a horn section.
Next, Bruce brought out Jon Bon Jovi for "10th Avenue Freezeout" and the horn section grew to eight players!
Bruce and Jon traded off so well, it really was awesome to see two of the biggest rock stars in the world out there together to support an important local charity.
The finale was "Santa Claus is Coming to Town." When Southside Johnny came out, Bruce said "The Grinch is With Us." Also onstage for the finale was Gary US Bonds, Tim McCloone and several Christmas-type characters in costume including The Grinch.
Santa Claus made an appearance also.
Toward the end of the song Bon Jovi said to Bruce, "So Bruce, have you been good this year? Santa wants to know!" and it was a cool rap back and forth between the two as Bruce started jamming away on his guitar.
Jon Bon Jovi played a set before Bruce. He first joined Southside Johnny for "I Don't Want To Go Home" and then later came out to perform at 11:05 p.m .
He said "It's nice to be here for Terry and Joan" and then talked about Bobby Bandiera. "Without Bobby Bandiera nothing is possible for tonight. This is a true legend of the Jersey Shore."
Jon's set:
1. Please Come Home For Christmas
2. Blue Christmas.
3. Run, Run Rudolph
Jon then talked about how thrilled he was to be playing tonight. "Southside Johnny is my hero and to be playing with Gary US Bonds, Mr. Popeye and many of the originators of the local music is such a thrill. And of course Bruce," he said.
"At the end of the day, I'm always so proud to be from New Jersey."
Jon then played:
4. Who Says You Can't Go Home
This had the crowd up and dancing and it was right after this song that Bruce came out to no introduction and say "Good evening."
Show started at 8:15 p.m. with Dave Marsh talking about ALS and Joan Dancy and how the money from tonight was going to be used. He said: "Joan was the best rock and roll fan and tonight we're going to build a stairway to heaven."
Tim McCloone and Holiday Express then played six Christmas songs which were a lot of fun.
Terry MaGovern then came out and spoke a bit about ALS and the support group that the money raised tonight was going to help.
Next up was Mark Pender and LaBamba who rocked the house with a fun set. At one point Mark and LaBamba took all the horn players and went all through the theater, including the balcony.
Bobby Bandiera took the stage at 9:15 and played a lot of the Phil Spector songs he did at the "Rock and Soul Revue" show a few weeks earlier at the Count Basie Theater.
They played a nice version of "Let It Be."
Southside Johnny made his first appearance of the evening for "Spanish Harlem" with Bobby. Then Gary US Bonds came out to sing "Pretty Little Angel Eyes."
Bobby closed his hour-long set with Neil Young's "Like a Hurricane."
Gary US Bonds took the stage at 10:20 p.m. and played "Mississippi Queen," "Can't Teach an Old Dog New Tricks" and "Quarter to Three."
Southside came out to join Gary on "Havin'g a Party"
The show really started to hit high levels when Southside Johnny took the stage at 10:45 p.m.
His set:
1. Talk to Me
2. It's Chirstmas Time Baby
3. I Dont' Want to Go Home (with Bon Jovi)
4. Trapped Again
Nice to see two original Asbury Jukes, Kevin Kavanaugh and Mr. Popeye (Kenny Pentifallo) played with Southside again.
Bon Jovi was up next and then Bruce.
Some notes:
Bruce's mother and aunts were sitting in the front row on the left side, facing the stage.
New Jersey's US Senator, Frank Lautenberg, was sitting in the front row on the right side of the center section. Also sitting up front were other political types and members of the ALS chapters.
12.13.06 BRUCE, SOUTHSIDE, AND BON JOVI Guest With BOBBY BANDIERA Last Night in Red Bank.
What a night! At the Bobby Bandiera Christmas Concert at the Count Basie Theater Last Night in Red bank, NJ many were on hand to lend a hand for the holidays. The show was a benefit for the PALS Support Group, a charity started by Terry Magovern in memory of Joan Dancy. Opening the show was Tim McCloone and the Holiday Express. After successfully warming up the crowd it was turned over to LaBamba and Mark Pender and Pender's band.
The night was full of excitement when Gary U.S. Bonds leaked that "Elvis was in the Arena" during his set.
Southside Johnny joined Bandiera for a couple of Jukes songs including "Spanish Harlem" which was amazing- when who walks in? The boy from Sayerville, Mr. Bon Jovi! Jon performed a couple of Christmas songs including, "Please come home for Christmas" and and Elvis rendition of "Blue Christmas." He later added "Who says you can't go home" to a delightful crowd. As the crowd began to buzz in walked the man - Bruce! The crowd went nuts as Bruce began to play the intro to Darlington County. A very good rendition as the band was on task. They rolled through Bruce oringinals "Darlington County", "Spirit in the Night", "Seaside Bar Song", "Tenth Avenue Freeze Out (with Bon Jovi)" and the show closer "Santa Claus is Coming to Town (with all returning to the stage)." It was funny throughout the show as the gang was fooling around with a bullhorn in between songs. As Bruce sang the last line of "Santa" you could see Southside saying something to Bon Jovi regarding the bullhorn and the Bon Jovi shaking his head no, laughing, and (we read his lips) saying, "NO WAY".
All in all- great show. Thanks again to Bobby Bandiera, Tim McCloone, Southside Johnny, Gary U.S. Bonds, Terry McGovern, Bon Jovi, and of course Bruce. Stay tuned later to another report of the show. See Setlist Below.
Here's the report of the Count Basie show from Backstreets:
Bruce joins the band for Bobby Bandiera's holiday jam
on Tuesday night, "The Bobby Bandiera All-Star Holiday Concert" lived up to its billing, as Bobby wrangled a whole host of New Jersey greats for a full night of holiday cheer. The show was a benefit for the PALS Support Group, a charity started by Terry Magovern in memory of Joan Dancy. After a few words from Dave Marsh about the good cause, it was right into nearly four hours of music: Tim McLoone and his Holiday Express kicked things off with Jerry Carbouy on bass, followed by sets from the balcony-storming Mark Pender and LaBamba, Bandiera's smokin' Rock and Soul Revue, Southside Johnny, and Gary U.S. Bonds. The night's penultimate artist was Bon Jovi, who turned in a charming set of yuletide R&B, like "Please Come Home for Christmas," "Blue Christmas," and "Run Run Rudolph." The night kept building and building. Everyone knows the vibe that is present when Bruce is going to be making an appearance, and that electricity was in the air from the pre-show reception right on through the last notes of the evening."
Yes, then there was Bruce, closing the show with a 35-minute set. Backed by Bandiera's Rock and Soul Revue, plus a big swath of Jukes making for an immense horn section, Springsteen brought the heat.
"Bruce was on fire from the minute he sauntered on stage last night, casually picked up an electric guitar, and launched right into the opening chords of 'Darlington County.' In a setting where he could have played it cool, he took it up a notch and had the entire theatre eating out of his hand. While many fans were just happy to see him strap on an electric guitar, Bruce showed that he could still make it talk -- the intensity of his playing, especially on 'Spirit in the Night,' not usually a guitar-driven song, blew everyone away. Bruce let the audience take over a couple of lines during 'Spirit,' much to its delight. The horns added a lot to 'Darlington' and 'Seaside Bar Song,' and, of course, 'Tenth Avenue Freeze-out,' which included Jon Bon Jovi. A fun 'Waitin' on a Sunny Day,' which Bruce dedicated to Terry, could have been better than in 2003.
The finale of Santa Claus brought the surreal images of Bruce sharing the stage with the Grinch (not Southside Johnny, but a person in an actual Grinch suit) and a couple of Sesame Street characters. [It was a "Flaming Lips-like scene,"] Bon Jovi asked Bruce if he had been good this year, and Bruce responded by playing some hot licks on the guitar while Santa Claus bore witness. It was just a great night, even if the show lagged a bit at points over the course of the night before Bruce took the stage. Last night reminded us of what Bruce does best: rock the house." stay tuned at www.myspace.com/brucespringsteenestreet for the lates Bruce updates!
12.10.06 Bruce and Patti at Asbury Lanes, Asbury Park, NJ
ASBURY PARK — Guitarist/singer Wanda Jackson and her fans got a pleasant surprise Sunday night at Asbury Lanes, when Bruce Springsteen and his wife, Patti Scialfa, showed up to take in Jackson's set with the Lustre Kings.
Springsteen and Scialfa, a member of his E Street Band, were treated respectfully by the approximately 200 people who had come to bowling alley/nightclub on Fourth Avenue to hear the Oklahoma-based, self-described "rockabilly grandma" Jackson perform.
The couple, who live in Colts Neck, sat quietly on the edge of a bowling ball return machine, uninterrupted by fans as they listened to Jackson and the Boston-based Lustre Kings.
Jackson sang with aplomb and her rendering of her early hit, "Fujiyama Mama," drew hearty applause.
Midway through her set, Jackson thanked the audience for coming out.
"During this holiday time, it's very special to me that Bruce Springsteen and his lovely wife, Patti, came out to see me," Jackson said. "And it's nice to know they're just regular people, too."
The audience responded with a round of applause.
Springsteen, who did not perform, later posed for pictures with various members of the Lustre Kings and a few people in the audience.
Jackson's recent albums include "I Remember Elvis" (2006) on Goldenlane Records, and "Live and Still Kickin,' " a 2003 release on DCN Records.

THANKS FOR ALL THE BIRTHDAY WISHES!!! - BRUCE
BACK TO SCHOOL
Springsteen, Bandiera & Co. rock the Pony again
Springsteen may have played his last Rumson Country Day School benefit, but the spirit -- and heck, the setlist -- lives on. Last night at the Stone Pony, Bruce reteamed with Bobby Bandiera and his band for a similar affair, once again a private show for parents and teachers, this time for the Ranney School. It was a night of rock, as we've come to expect from this kind of show, featuring classic covers like "Seven Nights to Rock" and a full "Detroit Medley"; the only echo of the ongoing Seeger Sessions tour was the sight of Ed Manion and Patti Scialfa on stage. Patti got much of the spotlight, stepping up for "Tell Him," "Boy from NYC, and "Sugar Sugar". In another setlist change, Southside Johnny joined in for an audible of "I Don't Wanna Go Home." As the set stretched out, something had to give (it was a school night, after all), and songs 16-19 on the handwritten setlist were dropped. Surely no complaints, as Bruce went from "Darlington County" into a high-energy "Tenth Avenue Freeze-out," and had the headmaster onstage for a show-closing "Twist and Shout."

I hesitate to use this website for anything personal believing it should remain a place where fans of my music can come free of the distractions that occasionally arise with the rest of my job.
However, due to the unfounded and ugly rumors that have appeared in the papers over the last few days, I felt they shouldn’t pass without comment. Patti and I have been together for 18 years- the best 18 years of my life. We have built a beautiful family we love and want to protect and our commitment to one another remains as strong as the day we were married.
