Influences: Transplanted to Manhattan from the American Midwest, musician David Poe ran the soundboard for CBGB's Gallery before signing to Sony/Epic. "David Poe gives the singer-songwriter genre a much-needed jolt," wrote Rolling Stone of his award-winning first effort, produced by T-Bone Burnett and Poe toured the globe as support act for Bob Dylan, Tori Amos, The Jayhawks and Chris Whitley.
His second effort, The Late Album, was deemed "near-perfect" and awarded a coveted 4 star review. Poe followed up with Love Is Red (Universal), two live releases (David Poe Live & Solo At The Artists Den and a DVD, Onstage at World Café) and produced recordings for Kraig Jarret Johnson (The Jayhawks, Golden Smog,) Jenifer Jackson and Regina Spektor.
"A sophisticated city breed," wrote Q magazine. "Articulate accounts of edgy situations are Poe's forté, his breathy voice and jaunty strum often disguising some acidic lines." The NME said, "Poe likes to shade his confessionals and storytelling with beautiful, lush, guitar-underpinned music." Intense as the songs may be, Poe's onstage banter is funny, warm, and often peppered with random comments about current events, philospophy and certain members of the audience.
Now working on his next solo effort, Poe is also collaborating with Duncan Sheik on a project called The I Love You, recording with an electronic group called The Rabbit, scoring a new movie starring Danny Masterson (That 70s Show), working with Oscar-nominated Filmmaker Amy Berg (Deliver Us From Evil) on an issue campaign for this year's election cycle and creating a commissioned piece with dancer/choreographer Jill Johnson for Manhattan dance company Cedar Lake which premieres in 2008.
