About Me

Its all a bunch of nonsense really...George has always loved singing and has always had tunes going through his head....so he has written innumerable songs and sings them to anyone who will listen....people often like them when they hear them....which gives George temporary relief...he lives with his daughter and his youngest son and a great deal of scrap paper.....he is happiest talking with his children or embarked on a new song....he suspects his continued existence in this world is a clerical error, of no great consequence...he strives to remain humbly grateful... His albums include 'The Bumpy Road to Love', 'Contrary & Western', 'Keep the Whole Thing Going' and 'Bottled Smoke'. George still performs regularly in Cambridge UK where he currently lives, and embarks on short tours both in mainland Europe and the US. The end of 2008 saw 2 albums completed...'Keep 'em Coming', the Whateverly Brothers 2nd album, and Lorelei's 'Debut'. There are tracks from each for you to listen to here.

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: I do a growing number of solo shows... to accommodate the still confused English licensing laws, I perform as a duo with any of the following.. Jono Manson (as the Whateverly Brothers), Neil Thomas accordion/vocals, Fabian Bonner bass, Pete Newman sax, Phil Stephenson gtr/vocals & Richard Lee upright bass....When the occasion warrants, I employ larger combos made up of some combination of the above...I also enlist the help of Lorelei(Fay Childs & Cath Breen) on vocals and help them with their shows when I can..I have recorded basic tracks for a batch of songs with Fabian Bonner on bass and Ian Pickering on drums at Tom Bainbridge's Real Deal Studios...Once or twice a year I tour Europe with George Kilby Jr playing bass & mandolin....I go back to New York City, where I lived for 9 years, at least once a year...Over the years I have played with a great many great players there and continue to play with some of them when I'm there...they include, or have included... Joe Flood, Rachelle Garnier, Mark Ettinger, Andreas Vilamil, Howie Wyeth, Kevin Trainor, Neil Thomas, Jono Manson, Paul McGovern, Eric Ambel, Steve Antonakos, Ron Sunshine, Tim Carroll, Jeremy Tepper, Jay Godfrey-Sherman, Albert Caiti, Mark Herschler, Bruce Rose, Bruce Whitcomb, Craig Dreyer, Anders Gaarmand, Jerry Dugger, Elton Reid, Paul Frazier, Steve Logan, Simon Chardier, Wes Landers, John Popper, Joan Osborne, Aaron Comess, Jimmy Mac, Bruce Martin, George Kilby Jr, Chuck Hancock, Milo Z, Mo Holmes, and numerous others who elude my tattered memory..
Influences: Alexander Township(Soweto), Bob Dylan, Brownie McGee, Stevie Wonder, Hank Williams, Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Martin Carthy, NRBQ, Nic Jones, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, John Lee Hooker, Wilson Pickett, Aretha, Red Knuckles & the Trailblazers.....
Sounds Like: mostly, I hope, like me...a limey hillbilly who enjoys both rocking and crooning...

Bad News

Apart from radio headlines, I largely avoid the media news outlets these days. Firstly, and selfishly, I generally have something better to do. Most TV is so disappointing that I rarely turn that on. ...
