Mari Rosa is an award winning singer, songwriter, and pianist who blends bombshell Brazilian breeziness, with a down-to-earth American acoustic aesthetic. The sonic lovechild of Brazilian knock out Astrud Gilberto, and earthy American songsmith James Taylor, Mari's music stirs gently, coos freely, and resonates from the roots.
"Vocalist Mari Rosa is an enchanting young performer with a pitch-perfect voice, a passion for Brasil, and a talent for writing songs that are eccentric and irresistible." John Matouk, About.com
"Rosa...is catching the attention of bossa nova and Latin jazz aficionados, who praise her voice as well as her multilingual song-writing skills." — Russell Contreras, Boston Globe, May 6, 2007
“A songstress who has received countless critical accolades, as well as a 2005 Billboard [Songwriting] Award, Mari Rosa sings jazzy, seductive numbers in Spanish, Portuguese and English. All [in] a classy, sensuous reflection of her American, Italian, and Argentine roots – encapsulated in a lilting voice that seems to have come down through the ages.” Jason Jeffers, Flavorpill.net
“Mari Rosa's debut disc, Honeyspot, feels like the sonic progeny of Martin Denny's Afro-Desia(1959) and Astrud Gilberto and Stan Getz's Gets Au Go Go (1964). Like those two classics, songwriter/vocalist Rosa's disc resists blushing at its own suave subtext... In 2005, Rosa received her first Billboard Music Award for Songwriting; she wrote nine of the twelve songs on Honeyspot, which is still being shopped to labels. She composes in jazz, bossa nova, and bolero styles, and various heady amalgams thereof. [Rosa] describes Honeyspot as a concept album. It is also –like Pink Floyd's Meddle and the Ohio Players' Honey –a conception album.” Andres Solar, Miami New Times, March 8, 2007
