Right away his teacher noticed that Nicolas had the rare gift of absolute pitch perception, which allowed him to acquire an extended knowledge of advanced musical concepts in harmony, arranging and composition at a very precocious age. After 12 years of dedicated studies, Nicolas earned a degree in classical music. However, always in search of new harmonies and sonorities, he started developing a growing interest for more modern approaches to music, studying jazz in its chronological integrity with John Savvides, eventually leading to his being discovered during a Berklee clinic led by reknown Paul Schmelling (Chair of the Piano Department at Berklee College Of Music) and invited to attend the school with a scholarship. While at Berklee Nicolas tutored students in ear training, arranging, Harmony, Composition, Music Technology.Nicolas has a B.A in Jazz Composition and a B.A in Music Production and Engineering.Nicolas has been producing, writing, arranging and engineering for independent and major labels as well as individuals. He worked with many artists such as Aika (EMI music Japan/True Blue), Ayaka Hirahara (Dreamusic Japan), Marty Friedman (Former Megadeth Lead Guitarist - AVEX Japan) Romain Collin (The Theonious Monk Institute – Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, George Duke),EJ Labb, Oli Rockberger, Discovery Sound amongst others.Nicolas is producing/arranging/writing and mixing many different music styles such as Jazz, R&B, Hip Hop, Pop, acoustic, electronic. His production of Aika's "Ai-Wo" earned a top 10 in the Japanese Radio Charts and also one of his hip hop pieces was the opening act of the Boston Music Awards 2006.Nicolas owns a production company,Neilaproductions, always looking to work with new people.
