Sounds Like: We look forward to the time when the Power of Love will replace the Love of Power. Then will our world know the blessings of peace. ~William Ewart GladstoneIf we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other. ~Mother TeresaPeace cannot be achieved through violence, it can only be attained through understanding. ~Ralph Waldo EmersonThe more we sweat in peace the less we bleed in war. ~Vijaya Lakshmi PanditLet there be peace on earth And let it begin with me. ~Seymour Miller & Jill Jackson, "Let There Be Peace on Earth," 1955"He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would suffice. This disgrace to civilisation should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, senseless brutality, deplorable love-of-country stance, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be a part of so base an action! It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder". Albert Einstein-(VICKY:))I take it that what all men are really after is some form of, perhaps only some formula of, peace. ~James ConradThe real differences around the world today are not between Jews and Arabs; Protestants and Catholics; Muslims, Croats, and Serbs. The real differences are between those who embrace peace and those who would destroy it; between those who look to the future and those who cling to the past; between those who open their arms and those who are determined to clench their fists. ~William J. Clinton, 1997The pacifist's task today is to find a method of helping and healing which provides a revolutionary constructive substitute for war. ~Vera Brittain, 1964You cannot shake hands with a clenched fist. ~Attributed to both Golda Meir and Indira GandhiPeace hath higher tests of manhood Than battle ever knew. ~John Greenleaf WhittierFive great enemies to peace inhabit with us: avarice, ambition, envy, anger, and pride. If those enemies were to be banished, we should infallibly enjoy perpetual peace. ~Francesco PetrarchYes, we love peace, but we are not willing to take wounds for it, as we are for war. ~John Andrew Holmes, Wisdom in Small DosesAn eye for eye only ends up making the whole world blind. ~Mahatma GandhiThere is one armor that the world of men and women, as a world, has never yet put on. The churches have long bungled with its fastenings, but the world has gone unfunded, and few have been those in whose hands the mystical sword of the spirit has shone with daily use. This armor, waiting to be worn, is the armor of brotherhood and sacrifice, the world of unselfishness, a conquering sword, with the power, where used, to unite the world in love. And there are none who may not put it on. ~M.A. DeWolfe HoweI think that people want peace so much that one of these days government had better get out of their way and let them have it. ~Dwight EisenhowerLord, bid war's trumpet cease; Fold the whole earth in peace. ~Oliver Wendell HolmesWe have all taken risks in the making of war. Isn't it time that we should take risks to secure peace? ~J. Ramsay MacDonaldWe seek peace, knowing that peace is the climate of freedom. ~Dwight D. EisenhowerRight is more precious than peace. ~Woodrow WilsonMaybe we should develop a Crayola bomb as our next secret weapon. A happiness weapon. A beauty bomb. And every time a crisis developed, we would launch one. It would explode high in the air - explode softly - and send thousands, millions, of little parachutes into the air. Floating down to earth - boxes of Crayolas. And we wouldn't go cheap, either - not little boxes of eight. Boxes of sixty-four, with the sharpener built right in. With silver and gold and copper, magenta and peach and lime, amber and umber and all the rest. And people would smile and get a little funny look on their faces and cover the world with imagination. ~Robert FulghumIn the name of peace They waged the wars Ain't they got no shame ~Nikki GiovanniLet us love the world to peace. ~Quoted in The Angels' Little Instruction Book by Eileen Elias Freeman, 1994A warless world will come as men develop warless hearts. ~Charles Wesley BurnsWe shall never be able to effect physical disarmament until we have succeeded in effecting moral disarmament. ~J. Ramsay MacDonald "We face a true planetary emergency. The climate crisis is not a political issue, it is a moral and spiritual challenge to all of humanity." Former US Vice President Al Gore and recipient (jointly with the IPCC) of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize"We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences that we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee." - Marian Wright Edelman, lawyer, educator activistSeptember 21 Day of Peace "...a fixed calendar date ..a day for you to act, to become involved, to make a difference ....no matter how big or small, please do it...a day of cease fire, non-violence and cultural cooperation .. the 21st of September is that starting point...to come together as one to lift the consciousness around the most fundamental issue, the protection of each another. Please, please, don't wait for government to make the difference. Make the difference yourself. By working together there will be peace one day." ---Jeremy Gilley"Struggle is a never-ending process. Freedom is never really won -- you earn it and win it in every generation." --- Coretta Scott King (1927-2006)"Reality leaves a lot to the imagination." --- John Lennon"Humanity should question itself, once more, about the absurd and always unfair phenomenon of war, on whose stage of death and pain only remains standing the negotiating table that could and should have prevented it." --- Pope John Paul II"You can't fix every problem, but what you can fix, you must." --- Bono"I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become reality. I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word." --- Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr."I spent a lot of time writing about the disappointment of discovering, somewhat first-hand, the degree of evil of which we are still capable. I should at least mention that I am also discovering a degree of strength and of basic ability for humans to remain human in the direst of circumstances." --- Rachel Corrie"Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding." - Albert Einstein"Give peace a chance." - John LennonAll works of love are works of peace." - Mother Theresa"True peace is not merely the absence of tension but is the presence of justice and brotherhood." --- Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. --- Eleanor Roosevelt"When peace has been broken anywhere, the peace of all countries is in danger." - Franklin Delano Roosevelt"When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace." --- Jimi Hendrix"Poverty is the worst form of violence." – Gandhi"Ev'rybody's talkin' 'bout Bagism, Shagism, Dragism, Madism, Ragism, Tagism This-ism, that-ism, ism ism ism All we are saying is give peace a chance All we are saying is give peace a chance ..." - John Lennon"If you lose hope somehow you lose that vitality that keeps life moving, you lose that courage to be, that quality that helps you to go on in spite of all. And so today I STILL HAVE A DREAM..." - Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
