Now located in New York City, Tanner recently relocated to the Big Apple from the city of Lawrence, KS, a music melting pot and culturally rich college town. His time in Lawrence laid a foundation for Tanner to not only play Lawrence's largest rooms countless times, but to also build and establish a respect to and from his fans and musical peers throughout the Midwest.
Having released his first album in the fall of 2004, " It Was " gained instant recognition for it's undeniably professional creation. Produced by Robert Rebeck (Pomeroy, Tech9) at Chapman Recording, Kansas City's premiere recording facility, these ten tracks were created over one hot summer by Tanner and his five-piece band of veteran KC area players, including members of the Cosmopolitics, Pocket Space, OK Jones and numerous other local projects. " It Was " has a profound pocket of musicianship, with crystal clear production quality to back Tanner's radio-friendly and yet still progressive songwriting. In the summer of 2003, the Chicago Tribunenoted Tanner's skills as "...made-for-radio lyrical sentiments."
During his time in Lawrence and Kansas City, Tanner has co-billed with the likes of Kelly Clarkson , Bob Schneider , Everclear , The Samples , Teitur and Graham Colton , he's also hosted a number of hometown shows with good friends Marc Broussard , Matt Wertz , Dave Barnes and Pete Schmidt . And traveling on two brief East Coast tours both with close friend Mike Cibura on lead guitar, as well as with friend Sarah Blacker , combined with strong iTunes sales in the U.S., Europe and Australia, Tanner's reputation as one-of-a-kind profound songwriting force has alas been solidified.
His latest release, "The Future of Tape," took by surprise both his fans and musical peers. Recorded at Mixtape SoundLab , with producer and close friend Jerett Fulton, Tanner's sophomore album is a fusion of electronic acoustic pop, that travels broad sonic landscapes containing expressive, sticky hooks with lyrics rich in imagery. As The Pitch described "impassioned vocal inflections of Sting and the jazzy chord changes of Steely Dan, Walle creates polished tunes with mainstream appeal and pro-grade musicianship ... a slick collection of Pro Tools crafsmanship that serves as a showcase for Lawrence's Mixtape Meditation Studio."

"Local singer/songwriter Tanner Walle will toast his ambitious sophomore release "The Future of Tape" with full band in tow. Recorded at Lawrence's Mixtape Meditation Studios (and released on a companion record label), the polished collection incorporates tuneful electronica elements into Walle's mass-appeal tunesmithing. Utilizing acoustic fingerpicking, jazzy chord changes and funky drum breakdowns to craft radio-ready pop gems, Walle and company appear poised for a bigger stages in the very near future."

Lawrence singer-songwriter Tanner Walle toes a highly accessible line between alternative crooners and electronica-infused pop. Incorporating the impassioned vocal inflections of Sting and the jazzy chord changes of Steely Dan, Walle creates polished tunes with mainstream appeal and pro-grade musicianship. Friday he toasts his sophomore LP, The Future of Tape, a slick collection of loop-and-tweak Pro Tools craftsmanship that serves as a showcase for Lawrence's Mixtape Meditation Studio (and accompanying record label).

"Innovative, orginal and bright eclectic electronic sounds complimented by acoustic guitars create what's been coined as Jeff Buckley meets The Postal Service."

"...I assume The Future of Tape has a lot of surprising tracks in it. After I took several replays on the track [Hearing Things Again], I can still remember the repetition of lyrics at the end..."

"In the first song, 'Hello Goodbye,' Tanner merges a pop sound with electronic influences. The layered, fractured samples in this track are heavily produced, but don’t confuse that with the acoustic fluff added to fill out some radio pop anthems. [The song] closes things off with a repeating vocal riff that reminds me of the harmonized nonsense syllables used in Frou Frou’s 'Breath In' and 'Hear Me Out.'

"'But Then' is a bit of acoustic pop with a more organic approach. The lazy slide guitar is a great compliment to the fingerpicked rhythms and subtle keyboards. Tanner’s melody choices and clear vocals also make this a very accessible track."
