Let's get four on the floor

About Me

I came to New York, in January '94 after a 6 month stay in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. I can't say I never looked back, fact is I looked back once, and realized I can't leave NYC. Now on my 14th year, I make a living playing Jazz, if nothing else happens in my life I will die a happy man. I get to play with some of the badest cats on the planet, Harry Whitaker, Hassan Shakur/J.J. Wiggins, Joe Cohn, Tommy James, Kengo Nakamura, Frank Senior, Satoshi Inoue, Saul Rubin, Bob Mover, Eric Alexander and the extraordinary vocalist Michelle Walker to name a few. But most of all, I get better every day. I am 37 now and I play better today than I did yesterday and alot better than a year ago. I get exited just thinking about how well I'll be playing when I'm 40, not mention 50 and 60. Swing baby just keep swinging baby.My friend and one of my favourite singers Frank Senior has just released his debut album "Let Me Be Frank" check it out. I am a very proud co-producer.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: jacobmelchior.com
Band Members: Amazing Grace, features Tommy James on piano and Kengo Nakamura on bass. ____________________ Bean and the Boys & Effendi, is with Steve Ash on piano and Neal Miner on bass. ____________________ Dream Dancing, is Eric Alexander: sax, Thomas Fryland: trumpet, Sam Yahel: Hammond Organ, JM: drums
Influences: I have been influenced by everybody I have ever heard, however the top 5, in terms of what comes through in my playing and cats who got me on the right track, are: Philly Joe, Elvin, Billy Higgins, Ed Blackwell and now more than ever before and at that a little more every day: Papa Joe Jones - Hands Down
Sounds Like: That is for you to decide and for me not to worry about. I am a mixed bag of all the cats I have heard so far. I love playing behind good singers, horn players, pianists, guitarists and bass players. My signature, if I have one, is groove. Groove with the brushes, groove with the sticks, groove with the mallets, groove with the hands, just groove. Stanley Crouch said this about me:"You passed the ultimate test, you can swing and you control the volume of the instrument"
