About Me

Originally from North Philadelphia, I grew up in a section of the city surrounded by the sounds of Gospel, Blues, Motown and Jazz.Sam Cooke, Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis Jr., and Johnny Hartman were my dad's favorites and they were played all the time in our home. My mom would play Sarah Vaughn, Duke Ellington and the Big Bands. She was a ‘40’s big band singer and encouraged my love of music at an early age teaching me jazz standards. I loved the stage and I loved to sing so singing in front of an audience came naturally to me.On the streets of Philly my friends listened to Motown and watched Soul Train to learn the latest dance steps which we'd incorporate in our double dutch rope routines. It was the sixties, and music was the heartbeat of love, despair, and the counter-culture. In '78 I moved to New York City to study with Stella Adler at the New School. To pay the rent I sang in up-scale night clubs for an older crowd that wanted to hear jazz standards. I sang like my momma taught me: with heart and soul. When my gigs were over I went downtown to after-hour jazz and blues joints in the Village, listening to some of the best blues and jazz players ever. Life now gives me its own version of the blues! I love to perform Jazz with a deep seated blues flavor so keep in touch here at myspace for new projects, recordings and gigs. The best is yet to come.In the meantime scroll down and view my tribute to Brooke Benton one of my favorite male singers. Check my friends too, they would love to hear from you.
