About Me

I write and perform songs in the North East of Scotland. I make gigs happen so I can hear, see and perform with talented musicians from where I live. It works!I started a night called STRIPPED AND WIRED in January 2007, monthly non- profit gigs aimed at bringing Acoustic and Electronic acts together, mostly from in and around the Dundee/ Perthshire/ Angus/ Fife areas but are keen to welcome those from further afield. It’s now a growing collective of performers with shows encompassing photgraphy, films and spoken word alongside music. If you are interested in playing/ showing material please get in touch via the top friends link below. Top acts include Reporter, Cavanich, Kid Canaveral, The Laurel Tree and The Devotional Ensemble.I also host the ACOUSTIC SESSIONS at Dundee University Students’ Association. Highlights have included Sam Isaac, Luke Leighfield, Katie Sutherland, Little Pebble, The Divine Pauline Meikleham, Steph McLeod, Spoon slide guitarist James Cumming and Etienne the unfeasibly talented sitarist!I run and host a third monthly night called ACOUSTIC CAFE, which is downstairs in the brilliant basement of Braes, Dundee. It attracts a wide range of people as an audience, all very appreciative of the talents and feeling of the evening. It has a focus on Scottish writers giving spoken word performances, as well as fine acoustic players. BORDERS Dundee sponsor the event which has already established a respectable reputation in its early days. Acts have included Alastair Artingstall, Mr. Gavin McGinty, Martin Henry from De Rosa, Luva Anna, Alan Bissett, Beerjacket, Rodge Glass, Tracey Herd, Ewan Morrison, Ainslie Henderson, Elliot From The West and Don Paterson. More tremendous artists to be announced soon. I’d love to say hello at a gig. Drop me a line at [email protected] and come along to enjoy a good night. /

Band Members: Loved ones.I write and perform everything else. A few songs are my first ever attempt at making a demo on a 4- track over Christmas 06. They should give some flavour but I'm aware they need to be polished. Others are first live recordings with a rare- practiced outfit of funseekers, incl: Elliot From The West (Bass/ additional guitars), Big Jon The Baker's Son (Drums/ melodica/ Miffy xylophone), Gill Creegan (Backing vocals/ percussion), Peter Cameron (Violin)Feel free to offer feedback, get in touch or join a mailing list by writing to; [email protected]
Influences: Abba, Simon and Garfunkel, John Denver, Jim Reeves, Elvis, Cliff Richard, Gordon Lightfoot, Robin Hall and Jimmy McGregor, The Beatles, INXS, Prince, Teenage Fanclub, St. Roch's Ceilidh Band, The Cocteau Twins, The Cramps, Roxy Music, The Pretenders, James Brown, Glasgow, The Smiths, Leadbelly, Martin Stephenson, Velvet Underground, The Doors, Banbury, U2, Pixies, SLAM, Dave Clarke, Brian Eno, Fela Kuti, Carl Craig, Relief Records, David Bowie, Francois Kervorkian, Underground Resistance, The Divine Comedy, Long Beach California, Radiohead, Dub, minimal electro, Talking Heads, Blondie.Right now I'm listening to Josh White, The Band, The White Stripes, Doc Watson, Chopin, Joan As Police Woman, Johnny Cash, Ballads of The Book, , Midlake, Reverand Gary Davis, John Mayer, Old-time Country, Tampa Red, Soul, Boards of Canada, Rufus Wainwright, The Devotional Ensemble, Feist. I'm reading David Sedaris, Ewan Morrison, Don Paterson, Alan Bisett, Rodge Glass, Tracey Herd, Bill Duncan, Raymond Carver, J. Robert Lennon, Joyce Carol Oates, Norman MacCaig, Cormac McCarthy.I have played alongside and been influenced by a great many musicians and writers in the past 2 years. I count myself lucky and am grateful to all of them for their influence. I am gaining a good reputation for single- handedly running good shows and ably supporting visiting acts to Dundee in unique settings. I am well repected in my own musical community without any baggage, bravado or bluster. I put on a mean raffle! Here are some comments about me/my music; "A talented songwriter and musician. People are drawn to you"- Ewan Morrison (author of Swung). "fine songs" - Don Paterson ('the finest poet of his generation') "very impressive" -Ainslie Henderson... My show Stripped And Wired has been described in IS THIS MUSIC as "a real slice of bohemia". My promotional/ hosting/ playing approach has been described as "pioneering" by Kirsty Gunn, with regard to bringing music and literature together every month in the Dundee scene. People always clap at my shows.
Sounds Like: An excerpt from a review in IS THIS MUSIC for one of my shows "Opened by Mondo Mimo, the secret pseudonym of the event’s promoter, his acoustic lullabies were the perfect opener, a varied mix of pop and folk, blues and roots with lyrics that span the whole of Scotland. A wonderfully enthusiastic promoter, Mondo Mimo has done more than anyone else in the area to ensure that left field and acoustic talent gets heard alongside the inexorable tidal wave of wasted little View wannabes. Gold medal, that man." - Robin Murray..
