I wanted to take this opportunity to share my experiences of true brotherly love I experienced during recent trips to Birmingham and Detroit.
With the help of my good friend, Michael Douglas, in Birmingham, Alabama, I truly understand that remembering God is the act of engaging Him in conversation, which is what prayer is all about. He explained to me over and over it also means putting God in remembrance and completely giving way to His healing presence and healing voice. We should choose to trust the Holy Spirit to bring us into the process of facing painful memories and expunging the limitations that have seized us in bondage.
Another good friend, Steve Johnson, in Detroit, MI. helped me realize that what has seized us in chains undoubtedly has not included God at all. We must bring Him into the process of our remembering those things in life that had us bound. In that exchange with God during these prayers of remembrance, we need to be real, honest and open with Him -- not holding anything back.
Finally, Michael introduced me to his extraordinary cousin, Julia Jefferson, and her Prophetic Ministry. She helped me learn how to open up and let God touch the areas where there had been discomfort and pain. I recognized you may need help in order to do this. We may need to seek out a competent, spiritual and caring individual who walks at a high level of integrity and compassion and who is skilled in all aspects of spiritual direction.
We need someone who can mirror your emotions and self-talk to help us see how we are dealing with what is going on inside of ourselves. Such an individual does not necessarily tell us what we should do. Rather, they simply mirror what we are doing so that we can discover for ourselves those aspects of our lives where we keep tripping over the same pitfalls.
We have the free will to either ask God to bless every step of your journey or to be annoyed and frustrated by what occurs in those steps. When we ask God to bless each step, we acknowledge them as a useful part of our journey and in turn we receive peace. Then we have to have the faith to believe God for the increase. We should know that God is ultimately in control of everything, including our present circumstances. Surrendering to God helps us to let go of whatever has been holding us back from receiving God's best for our lives. By surrendering to God, we let go of whatever has kept us from desiring God's ways first in our lives.
Show me thy ways, O Lord; Teach me thy paths.
Lead me in the truth and teach me; For thou art the God of my salvation; On thee do I wait all the day. (Psalm 25:4,5)
