About Me

THE MALCOLM X COMMEMORATION COMMITTEE urges you to join us in our mission to keep Brother Malcolm's legacy alive. Our mission is fourfold:
* honoring and paying tribute to our fallen leader
* actively participating in the struggle to bring freedom and justice to our freedom fighters, the many political prisoners and prisoners of war caged in america
* educating our young and not so young about this great brother
* and carrying Malcolm's message of the Black Liberation struggle for land, independence and reparations to our brothers and sisters in the New York Metropolitan Area.
MALCOLM X COMMEMORATION COMMITTEE
Statement of Philosophy and Purpose
The MALCOLM X COMMEMORATION COMMITTEE (MXCC) was formed in 1992 by a small group of former members of the two organizations founded by Malcolm X after his expulsion from the Nation of Islam in 1964, the ORGANIZATION OF AFRO-AMERICAN UNITY and the MUSLIM MOSQUE, INC. These friends and supporters of Malcolm were motivated to take these steps as they noted how the resurgent interest in Malcolm, that was sweeping through the Black community, was being commercialized and trivialized while the real revolutionary image of the man and his message was deliberately being suppressed.
The MXCC is committed to revealing to the legions of Black people who have no direct knowledge of Malcolm, the true legacy of this great warrior who, at the time of his death, was rapidly emerging as the leader of the Black Liberation struggle for land, independence and reparations here in the united states of america, with a clear Pan-Africanist commitment.
In January of 1996 our group joined forces with other progressive human rights organizations to launch a movement to win recognition and release for the scores of political prisoners who are in prison across the united states as the result of the struggle for human rights, justice and fair play inspired by the exemplary position articulated so brilliantly by Malcolm X while he lived.
Specifically the MXCC began in that year to sponsor a tribute dinner for the families of political prisoners in the New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania area as a demonstration of our sympathy and understanding of the suffering they were enduring along with their loved ones behind the bars. All proceeds from that dinner go into the commissary account of the freedom fighters whose families are present at the dinner.
Among other strategies to gain recognition and freedom for our political prisoners the MXCC has launched a campaign to organize their families into a potent force to give a human face to the political prisoners and in the process offset the criminalization and dehumanizing effect of the media and prison authorities who want them locked away forever.
The Committee joins with the Sons and Daughters of Africa to conduct a pilgrimage to Malcolm's gravesite in Ferncliff Cemetry in Ardsley, NY on the date of his birth (May 19, 1925). Every year a caravan of buses and automobiles travel from Harlem to Ardsley to pay homage to our great ancestor. Pilgrims come from Boston, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Detroit, as well as NYC.
This year the Committee will sponsor an essay contest on the Legacy of Malcolm -- Its Meaning and its Message among elementary, middle and high school students in the public schools and afro-centered independent alternative schools. Our aim is to inform and educate people about Malcolm's revolutionary nationalism and to encourage them to carry forward the legacy he left for us.
This is a large task and we need more human resources if we are to fulfill our goal. Outreach into the public and private schools with materials and information about Malcolm requires that we have available committed brothers and sisters who are willing to do research on Brother Malcolm, compile that research into material suitable for our young people, and make presentations that will educate and inform our folks, keeping Malcolm's legacy of revolutionary nationalism alive.
