Evolving...day by day...step by step...moment by moment. Oh...and I like cooking, eating, cooking what I eat, eating what I cook, eating what others cook when they cook well, cooking well for others...I guess food, in general...LOLWhat else?Ummm...I like live music, I like reading, I like The Matrix/Internet, I like spending quality time with those close to me...uhhhh...I guess I'll think of some more stuff later.
I'd like to meet:
Anyone who embraces the seemingly unembracable. Anyone who finds profoundness in the seemingly mundane. Anyone who is humble enough to realize the lesson that we know what we know and do not know what we do not...and that the difference between the two states is characterized by our own willingness to take one step toward evolving into knowledge...and another...and another...and never, ever stop.
Oh...okay...so here's another video. This is the new Masta Ace joint...it's called "Nostalgia". It's hot...what can I say? Masta Ace is one of the most slept on MC's in Hip Hop...so enjoy.
Music:
Wow.Ummmm...let me just put it this way...Anybody who knows the term "grown folks' music" knows what I'm talking about.I mean, Classic Jazz is a must. If Miles, Trane, Monk, Dizzy, Mingus or Adderley borned it...it's pretty much a wrap for me.I cannot...I repeat, CANNOT live without what people call "classic" R&B. I'm talking about stuff that one used to find on 8-track tapes. You may remember...back before you needed a video to make a song appealing. Let's talk for a second about The O'Jays, The Four Tops, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Roy Ayers, Angela Winbush, Barry White, Curtis Mayfield, Tower Of Power, The Stylistics, Heatwave, Slave, B.T. Express...wow. I could go on and on.Now I am passionate about Hip Hop as a culture and a form of music. That having been said, I love Hip Hop so much that I hate listening to Hip Hop radio pretty much MOST of the time. By the way, Much respect to Afrika Bambaata and The Mighty Zulu Nation, DJ Kool Herc, DJ Red Alert, Grand Wizard Theodore Kurtis Blow and a host of trailblazers and founding fathers. My favorite MC's and artists you ask?Well let's see...Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, The Fearless Four, The Treacherous Three, The Sugarhill Gang, The Sequence (Big up to Angie B), Busy Bee, Jazzy Jay, Run DMC (RIP JMJ), Whodini, Doug E. Fresh and The Get Fresh Crew, Slick Rick, UTFO, MC Shan, The Juice Crew, Big Daddy Kane, Biz Markie, Roxanne Shante and others.Oh...let me bring it a bit more current...LOL:Rakim Allah, KRS ONE, Public Enemy, Gangstarr, Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth, Brand Nubian, De La Soul, Diamond D, Showbiz & A.G., A Tribe Called Quest, LONS, Hierogliphics, Boot Camp Click, a bunch of others and all whom these artists and collectives spawned. What? Ohh...MORE recent??? Okay (LOL)...Mos Def, The Roots, Common, Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch, Fat Joe, Jeru The Damaja, DITC...to name a few. I'll have to get back to you on current artists, who aren't strictly underground.
Movies:
I love indie cinema. I love films made outside the US. To me there is something about subtitles that intrigue me about a film. Now, 2 guilty pleasures of mine are ultra violent "shoot-em-up" flicks and kung fu flicks. I have always loved directors like Sam Peckinpah, Martin Scorcese and Francis Ford Coppola. I love more as well...ask me. I'll tell you.
Television:
To be honest, I hardly turn on a television these days. I do love the show "24" though.
Books:
I am currently rereading "Wretched of The Earth" by Franz Fanon. I'll let you know about what I get into next.
Heroes:
Firstly...any and every woman close to me. My mother, my daughter, my aunts, my grandmother and the hardcore of women I have spent my life being nurtured by.Secondly...Any man who supports the strength of women close to him...as it takes a true man to do that. And lastly...I guess anyone who overcomes that which which seems insurmountable at great peril to themselves (particularly when they do so for the good of others), anyone who embraces thoroughly the basic human capacity for compassion...Hey...that sounds like my mother, and every other woman in my family.Note to Greek: You honor me in the eternity which was your life and the beauty of all you bring to it. You are with us forever. I love you.
