Space Probe Taurus are a acid fuzz rock band, formed back in 1992 under the name Snake Machine. The name change came in 1997 when the band started playing shorter dirty rock songs with catchy choruses instead of the 7-8 minutes long spacerock trips they did before.
The band have mostly been compared (musically) to bands like Mudhoney, The Stooges, MC5 & Blue Cheer. The music is heavily influenced by the late 60's psych rock scene as well as the fuzzed out rock instrumentals used in biker movies from that same era.
There have been a couple of different line-ups in the past, but the core of the band has always been Sundler and Sjoberg. The present line-up has been together since December 2003.
Space Probe Taurus have released one EP, Insect City (released by US label Game Two Records ). The band has also been featured on a Blue Cheer Tribute CD as well as a couple of compilations.
The band's music is also featured in Actress Apocalypse (available from Atomic Erotic Films ), a sexy, psychedelic mockumentary from Director Richard R. Anasky which exploits the insanity that goes into the making of an underground film, as well as having a 14 track soundtrack CD included in the DVD package itself. They also have a song on the soundtrack to Director Richard R. Anasky's upcoming film I Am Vengeance (the psychedelic trip out of David William Hughes). The band has also one song featured in the Director Tim Ritter's eventual Dirty Cop DVD release...
In early 2005 the band finished the mix of their self-titled debut album. The band decided to record this themselves and send it out to labels to try and find a home for it... There are a couple of labels that are interested in it and hopefully something will be finalized soon.
In december 2005 SPT decided it was time to record some brand new songs, something they hadn't done since 2003 (the album contains only older songs they re-recorded). This was done to send to the labels that are showing interest in the album, to show them what the band is up to now and what can be expected in the future. The demo, called "Peace, Love & Satan", is by far the best recording the band has done this far... And you can currently hear 4 of the 5 songs on that demo here on this page.
