Comment from the artist on the Graphic Work "Choker":
The image before you is that of a person performing self-asphyxiation. The image came to me when I was asked by my brother, the bass player in the band, to make a poster for his blues/jam/rock band called "Choker".
After having done some initial photography at one of their rehearsals I first had the idea of trying to show them as the band that I saw there; sweaty, acutely alive and full of energy. But as I was working on the pictures I realized that this not how I knew my brother and his friends from before.

I know them as 3 guys that all work in the public sector in Malmö, Sweden. When you meet them at their workplace they seem to blend in with their grey surroundings, their tone of voice is subdued and they have a patient but bored expression plastered on their faces. But once they get to rehearsal they transform into something completely different.
It's like a small individual revolution that occurs a couple of times a week. But it's not a revolution against a system. It's more like a weekly catharsis that enables them endure another week of the self-imposed conformity that is needed, in order to fit in as a Swedish civil servants. But it's more than that, their music is a comment on the self-asphyxiating behavior of everyone around them; the trendy clothes, the hit-list music and daily worship at the tabloid altar. I feel that their music is saying: Do whatever you have to do to survive, but don't believe in it. It's only fucking fashion.
And there I had it. They choke their own persons to fit in and underneath awaits something as raw, naked and spontaneous as improvised rock.
Conformity by day, blues-rock by night.
Choker.
