Rock and Roll Report Blitz: The Backsliders
the-backsliders.jpg
From Dallas, Texas come the Backsliders, another very cool unsigned band loaded with soul and hooks. I absolutely love Fat Girls which is slated for their upcoming CD You’re Welcome scheduled for release sometime this fall.
Have a listen to Typically I Don’t Mind and the beautiful Pass On All Your Fears for a nice variety in sound and texture. Kim Pendelton has just enough of that scratch in her vocal to make this worth multiple listens. Great stuff
Check out their MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/thebacksliders and have a listen for yourself.
Later.

Ever since THe BAcksliders played my birthday show last year, I’ve become a fan of the band, and the new songs in particular are catchier than the common cold. If you haven’t heard their new stuff, go to their myspace and take a listen. Pay particular attention to “Fat Girls”, which I could see being a hit for the band. Once you’ve listened, if you like what you hear (which if you have good musical taste you will), then help THe BAcksliders out by voting for them.
First, vote here for THe BAcksliders as best band at the website Music Nation. If they win the competition, they get a record contract. It may be a long shot for the band, but it is still worth the shot, so sign up at Music Nation and vote!
Second, the band is vying for the title of KDGE’s “Band of the Week.” I’ve sampled some of the artists on the list, and with the exception of Johnny Lloyd Rollins, no one is even in the same LEAGUE as THe BAcksliders. Music Nation may indeed be a long shot, but I know that THe BAcksliders could win this, especially if everyone who reads this clicks here to vote for them. You can also listen to “Fat Girls” through the same link.
This is a great opportunity to help a great band get more of the recognition that they so deserve, so don’t put it off. Start voting dammit!

The Fine Line-
The premier of “The Backsliders - Live at The Double Wide” will be held at the Inwood Theater at 8pm, and guess what, it’s free (man, I LOVE that!!!). The Backsliders are a great band that successfully blends Country, Soul, Rock with a hot lead singer, Kim Pendleton. There is an after party at the location of the movie where multiple bands will pay homage to the DVD’s release. I’ll check back in with you guys later and let you know what’s going on this weekend. I’ll be gone, but I’ll make sure ya’ll are taken care of, promise! THe BAcksliders

Nominated for Best Blues
Months ago, THe BAcksliders mailed out a bunch of vinyl 45s as their press copies of a new single. As in, you know, a real live pressed platter, wrapped in cellophane and with cover art you could actually see. Opening that mother up, sliding out the disc with care, we were transported back to our eighth-grade trips to Sound Warehouse and Peaches Records. And that's how THe BAcksliders roll, with retro rock they can actually back up. They put their vinyl where their mouth is.
Best Blues
Forget records and CDs and MySpace—THe BAcksliders are a band best experienced live, preferably on a cramped stage in a sweaty club in a dubious part of town. And if you think it's unusual for a rock band to be named the Best Blues act in town, then you haven't heard Kim Pendleton sing. Imagine a much sexier Janis Joplin, all Tina Turner fishnets and Mick Jagger swagger, milking each song for all it's worth as husband/guitarist Chris Bonner, bassist Nolan Thies and drummer Taylor Young make a righteous garage-soul racket behind her. (Now imagine her doing the same thing in her third trimester, as she did earlier this year before having her first baby.) Relentless self-promoters, the band has recorded two albums and played 130 shows in their brief two-year existence—and it's doubtful even parenthood will slow them down too much. "I have little advice on rock momdom," Pendleton says. "Just be clean and find a good sitter." We'd gladly volunteer for the job, but we heard THe BAcksliders were playing. –N.W.B.
A Formerly Vibroluxurious Singer, Kim Pendleton's New Band is Totally Worth a Listen...and Looksee, Yessir Fri Mar 30, 2007 at 05:30:34 PM
We have to say, The BAcksliders may be Dallas' most relentless self-promoters (they're also relentless proponents of awkward capitalization). Not only did they send us copies of their debut full-length and recently released pink vinyl 45; they sent them to every writer on staff -- even Matt Pulle. We soon discovered, however, that the band is best experienced live, because you can't hear Kim Pendleton's racy attire, and greasy garage-soul numbers like "If I Could Wait" just don't translate to CDs and MySpace players.
Fortunately you'll have a prime chance to see for yourself Saturday night, when the BAcksliders -- complete with a baby on board, no less -- bring their Southern-fried rock and roll to Sons of Hermann Hall for a show with Austin's excellent Brothers and Sisters (who we've mentioned before) and former Dallas mainstay Reed Easterwood, back in town from New Mexico for a rare solo gig. If you couldn't swing the $65 to see Jerry Lee Lewis tonight, consider this $10 bill a Killer alternative. --Noah W. Bailey

*SATURDAY**
- The Backsliders play the Double Wide with their Austin friends A Few Nice Things. If you’re into indie bands informed by classic rock and ’80s pop you’ll dig the Backsliders. Plus they’ve got one of those raspy bad-ass chick vocalists… very nice. Show starts at 9:00. The Backsliders, RTB2 The Moon (2911 W. Berry St., Fort Worth). 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5. Cover TBD RTB2’s Ryan Thomas Becker may be the closest thing to Jack White DFW will ever have. The singer/instrumentalist somehow mixes soul, classic rock and White’s raggedy wail into his vocals. The band’s music is a splendid mix of those genres as well, with tambourine shakes, organ fills and dirty reverb-y guitars that grab your attention and won’t let go. The Backsliders, who do double duty tonight, hightailing it back to Club Dada to play a late set, ain’t too shabby either, with their high-energy, kick-ass poprockandrollabilly, anchored by Kim Pendleton and Chris Bonner’s scratchy rock n roll voices
music available on ITunes
CDs available at CD World, CD Source, Good Records, Bill's Records, Best Buy(north texas region), Waterloo Records. CDs and 7" singles ALWAYS available at the show
