Steverino el Capino

Like a blind man in a dark room grasping for a black cat that isn't there

About Me

The ancient Greek definition of "Capino" was working with your full powers.I am the author of several as yet undiscovered novels and screenplays... known to some as founder and lead guitarist of the legendary punk/alt/ska garage band Yoda's My Pimp, known to others as inventor of the Matthew Sandwich youth adventure series of pulp novellas ("Trouble at the Ass End of the Universe", "Mr. Skeleton's Tea Party", "Recipe for a Catastrophe" etc.)...Now I am working on the first part of an epic story you will be reading in the not so distant future. Check out my blogs for the first 13 chapters. Only those who have subscribed to my blog by June 1, 2007, will be able to read the rest before it's published. You can also check my stories and screenplays out at www.everyageneedsahero.com - and your patience is appreciated while it's under construction

My Interests

Reading, writing, movies, music, art, the big questions, quiet moments of inspiration and time enough to work on my books, art and screenplays.

I'd like to meet:

Fellow writers, artists, adventurers, seekers, and questioners. People who will give me honest feedback so I can become even better.

Music:

Blues, jazz, rock (classic, alt), experimental, pop, Celtic, bluegrass, reggae, some hip hop. Artists: Nina Simone, Miles Davis, Theloneous Monk, Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, Del McCoury, Donna Hughes, Gloria Estafan, Dido, Jewel, Bei Bei, Eminem, Jay Z, Einstein, Enya, Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen (especially acoustic like "Nebraska"), John Fogerty, The Beatles, Cream, Aerosmith, Gene Simmons, Dixie Chicks (don't shut up but do sing), and as PDQ Bach says, if it sounds good, it is good. Current video: looping obsessively over Rosario Dawson teaching nerds how to dance to the Jackson Five's "ABC" in "Clerks 2." Omifreakinlord.

Movies:

Anything that touches me enough to laugh or cry or change my mind, and move me to create something as touching and affecting. Directors: Pedro Aldomovar, Werner Hertzog, Guillermo del Toro for fantasyscapes and moral teachings, Zhang Yimou for visual lyricism, the incomparable Fellini and Kurosawa, Martin Scorsese for visceral visions, Quentin Tarantino for violent poetics, Robert Rodriguez for graphic splendor, the Coen brothers for comedic irony, the Coppolas for proving genius DNA exists, Todd Fields for delicate strength, Clint Eastwood for perseverance and redemption, Steven Spielberg for prodigious storytelling gifts, Ridley Scott for epic vision, John Cameron Mitchell for humor, keen insights and big heart, Andrew Davis for intelligent action and guilty pleasures, every Russell Banks novel ever made into a film, and so many others...

Television:

Lost, CSI, Ted Koppel, Bill Moyers, Frontline on PBS, Discovery channel, 60 Minutes, CNN, Charlie Rose, John Stewart, all the Star Treks, Lost in Space, Time Tunnel, Dave Chappelle, David Letterman, Chris Rock. The Sopranos and Deadwood on HBO. Fox News - not! Reality TV - not!

Books:

Under the influence of: Cormac McCarthy, Mark Twain, Philip Roth, Ridley Pearson, Larry McMurtry, Frank Herbert, Elmore Leonard, JRR Tolkien, Ursula LeGuin, Toni Morrison, Maya Angelou, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Iris Chang (rest in peace), Carl Hiassen, Philip K. Dick, David Gerrold (you Tribblemaker) Harlan Ellison, Joan Didion, Jeff Whitty, and others too numerous to name.

Heroes:

Everyone who has sacrificed to accept their fate as a voice for powers bigger than themselves. Anyone who committed a selfless act to save even one fellow being. The humble, the meek, the brave, the weak, the selfless, the wise, the silly, the quiet, the patient.
