About Me

All tracks by Donny Silverman, Brian Lee Sebastian and noisetet (except "kathleen" by T. Van Zandt); recorded by Tim Gerron; produced by Brian Lee Sebastian; mixed by TG & BLS; and mastered by our good friend Allan Tucker @ Foothill Digital, NYC.
"29th floor", "bush in darfur (lament)", "kathleen" (c. Townes Van Zandt; arranged by DS & BLS), and "abstract 3" are selections from the forthcoming noisetet 2007 release. "zomino", "happy hour", "lupe makes a bankshot" and "dark cypress" are selections from noisetet's 2003 release, "noisetet: obscure".
noisetet press blurbs: “... Second best (CD) of the year goes to NOISETET OBSCURE, who prove that you can have an avant garde fusion jazz punk rock group... and get away with it! The sounds emitted by this aggregate were beautifully feral... dark, majestic strains of sonic shard complete with great post-Murray drumming, restrained-yet-out guitar playing and of course the horns/keys coming close to various late-sixties Ornette endeavors, all (held) together by some great arco bass playing... and what's more is that these upstarts outta nowhere sound much better live!" - from Christopher’s CBGB Gallery Series Reviews, “Blog to Comm" (thanks Dee Pop!!)
"... the two main men appear to be Donny and Brian Lee and all tunes are originals except for a swell version of Eric Dolphy's "Hat and Beard"… This sort-of double band (two guitars, two basses & two drummers) is in-between the categories of free, jazz, rock and space, sometimes floating, sometimes grooving, with a bit of dub bass and noise guitar(s) thrown in. All but one piece is under six minutes so that they remain focused throughout. We get some fine Hendrix-like backwards guitar on "lupe makes a bank shot" and some powerful free-rockin' on "happy hour". I dig how they lay back and get into some sumptuous space/jazz in the middle pieces of this disc, creating a couple (of) intertwining sections simultaneously... Another unexpected delight!” - from Bruce Lee Galanter's (of NYC's Downtown Music Gallery) review of "noisetet: obscure"
Art/Photography: "dark cypress" photo, Eric Pils; "kathleen", Jack Levine (sample); "lupe makes a bankshot", Don Van Vliet (sample); "zomino", Paul Klee's "the Drummer" (sample); "abstract 3", Paul Klee (sample); album cover art, including sepia-toned and full color versions, renowned Seattle tattoo artist Vyvyn Lazonga.
