dicofone is the artist name of Diego Cofone. He was born in deepsouth of Italy but when he was one his family moved to Ascoli P. in the middle of peninsula. Early he started teach himself to scream and play the father's piano with feet since the age of 3.At fourteen he took classical voice lessons and one year later started studying piano with Giovanni Allevi. In the same period, he began playing gigs with local bands in a wide variety of styles and settings.During his university years in Bologna, he escaped from Allevi's acciaccature teaching himself how to scream with saxophone, bass clarinet, flutes bass and percussions, approching the local free improvisation scene and attending music studies with Shelley Hirsch, Phil Minton, Barre Philips, Edoardo Marraffa and Tristan Honsinger (with whom he still perform in duo and in his Eau Naturelle Octet).He also worked in composition and electroacustic research, studing computer music and sound design, and getting a consistent reputation as a sound engineer for the production of several recording sessions and cds. He performed as a multi-instrumentalist in elettroacustic solos, small chamber ensembles and multimedia theatre companies, as well as participated in various contemporary music festivals.In 2005 he has been selected as a resident artist at Fabrica Musica in Treviso until 2006. Here he continued his experimental music research, producing recordings, sound installations for visual (the last project was an installation for the photo exhibition "I See" presented in october '06 at Centre Pompidou in Paris), and performing with musicians from all over the world. In september 2006 he won the international selection of Red Bull Music Academy, performing for 3 weeks in Melbourne, Australia.
In 2007 he won the Special Mention at Iceberg Festival, the Biennale of young artists in Bologna.At the moment he's based in Bologna, collaborating on many musical and multidisciplinar projects and collaborating with the free improvised music collective GNU.
