About Me

ME (Rebecca Hawkins): Fantasy writer, Anti-heroes, decaf caramel lattes, warm sunshine, swimmy things, furry things, shiny things, leccy guitars, smiles and blank sheets of paper.

OTHERS SAY:
-"She can talk the hind legs off a donkey, from under 6 feet of water!" Ethan Burns, Australia.
-"Reading some authors is like being bashed over the head with a morningstar, it aint a subtle experience! With some others it's like having slivers of bamboo pushed slowly under your toe nails - f**king excruciating. Reading Rebecca's is like experiencing a good assassin's knife - its subtle and the first thing you know about its impact is when its tickling something vital inside!", Jason Warr, London.
-"Blonde and in the clouds (dark stormy sinister ones with Orcs n stuff)." Neil Styles, UK.
Add 'Crown's Redoubt' Banner
I write hero fantasy. Its not fully dark but its certainly grimey -I hope. I used to work in the music industry and met the strangest, funniest, most desperate and crazy people, which has given me a lot of inspiration for my characters, plus travelling over this wonderful little planet.
All that plus a strong anti-social streak (some equally nerdy friends) and a desire to escape the mundane, I found the great escape of fantasy. Yup, I became a geek, gaming, a wardrobe of black metal T's and so on (then rock n roll baby yeeeah!). Now I try to offer that escape to others - no dragons or unicorns I'm afraid.
I've been reading fantasy since I was 13 and writing since I was 13.5(yeah it probably took me 6 mnths to read Magician I'm sooo slow!). Well, if you like Gemmell, Brooks & Feist etc, then you'll like this. Promise ;)
Check out the BLOGS. If you want to read more you will have to drop me a line and ask for it.
Currently its being 'drafted' and gets sent to my much appreciated reader and slave driver, Jason (friends=JJ). I hope to have this draft done by end of Feb and ship it off to a pro editor & do the 2nd one around Easter, then off to the nice lovely wonderful editor ;)
Whats it about? The working title is: Crown's Redoubt.
There is no Good v Evil in this story, and heroes are not what you'd expect either. How could they be... with a drug addict, a murderer and one who had their soul ripped out at birth?
PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT, THANKS!

My Interests

Writing, reading, archeology, Polar exploration (partularly Scott), classical civilisations, scuba'ing. Love hearing those personal little anecdotes that can bring history to life, even some unknown little person who lived way back when... I love painting; music/blissing out with my iPod; day dreaming; thinking up lots of cool characters, places and scenarios; travelling; people watching; history; cultures; other people's opinions and thoughts - all helps me write.

I love Chinese martial arts (Kung Fu, Qinda & Tai Chi ), I won a bronze medal in the British National Qinda (Chinese Boxing) championship in Sept 04(BCCMA.com).

Gotta love walking, new places, faces, think time, wonder time. I take my dogs Goose & Tango, which is fine when they aren't looking for fox crap... I have 2 orphaned goldfish Fredward & Sunny.
I collect money for Cancer Research-UK via Expedition Africa.

I'd like to meet:

Readers, agents, publishers and any creative people who enrich this war-torn, pop-tarted, under talented and over lip-glossed, reality TV'd, poluted little planet I sometimes call home ;) Any creative people from in Milton Keynes???!

PLEASE DO NOT POST LARGE COMMENT PICTURES!!!
