Band Members: Dec Show. Wow can't believe it's back round to Xmas already!
Kicking off our Xmas bash we had local lass Miss Rosie Doonan singing songs from her new album " Moving On" and a great Joni Mitchell cover too, As always cool proffesionalism is what you get from this young lady!It surprised people that she opened the night but in true Irish fashion Rosie wanted to play early so she could have a few drinks! Way to go girl! We will be seeing Rosie later in the year i'm sure.
Next up was a young man ( can't say how young!) from Featherstone,
Lucas Chapman Smith making his debut solo performance. He played 2 covers, "Jesus don't want me for a sunbeam" by the Vaselines and "rape me" from the Nirvana back catalogue. If you weren't actually looking at the stage you would have been forgiven for thinking there was a seasoned 20 year old up there! With a voice deeper than Johnny Cash and no slouch on the geetar front either Ive got to say it was a very impressive debut and the legendary boons crowd showed their appreciation big style! I think I may have met him before though! LOL
Our good friend from Surrey Pete Neame was up next! Pete played at our debut night back in 2006 and often wanders up the M1 for a Thursday night out! He kicked off on his own and threw in a cover of the Troubadors song "Sometimes" which was a great surprise! Pete and Steve and Tracey Chapman Smith have collaborated via the internet on a number of songs over the last year to our mutual delight and these songs can be heard on Pete, Steve's and Traceys my space pages.
So it made sense for Pete to invite Steve and Tracey up onto the Boons stage, completely unrehearsed and shaking! Steve unleashed his new Bouzouki and Tracey added her beautiful vocals to the mix! It felt like we had ben doing it for years and worked really well with Pete's gravelly voice up front!
Needless to say we all really enjoyed it and we will doing more together in the future! And that is the whole point to these evenings and the my space ethic!
A welcome return to The Windy Bottom Boys who played our last Xmas show and what a difference a year makes! Paul, Pete and Martin were great last year but really pulled out the stops for this one! with guitars, banjo, mandolin and fiddle and the harmonies of Paul and Martin they had the boons crowd getting into the Xmas spirit with some great covers from the likes of the Pogues, The waterboys and Steve Earle! Great fun, Great guys! Go see em!
Just before The Troobs finished off the night in their usual ramshackle punk folk style we were treated to two songs from a guy from Korea called Kim!
His English wasn't too good but he played a traditional Korean song followed by an Indonesian song all sung in Korean and played on a borrowed guitar! He was great! He dissapeared straight after the show so I don't have any more info on him! If you read this Kim, get in touch!
So here's to 2008 already we have some fantastic acts lined up! Thanks for the support so far and thanks to the amazing Boons crowd! We love ya!
