About Me

FRANKIE ROE STARTING TO MAKE PEOPLE SIT UP AND TAKE NOTICE OF HER TALENTS, FRANKIE IS ALREADY PRODUCING QUALITY LYRICS AND ARRANGEMENTS WHICH WILL SURELY BE ENJOYED FROM MUCH FURTHER THAN HER LEEDS BASE www.leedsmusicpromotions.com
I like lots of things... going to Leeds and watching fashion disasters, collecting free stuff to stick on my walls (most random thing? Might have to be a free PG tips tea colour chart). I like to have long baths and read in the bath (usually I fall asleep and drop the book in the bath), and I can't concentrate on work without Tintin on in the background. I'm currently growing my nails. I like big make up and clothes, and Pimms (It's kind of an old person's drink but it is the nicest thing ever!). I love Radiohead. That's my single most important thing, musically speaking. Secondly, I come from Pudsey in Leeds (which is my excuse for almost everything because at my new school Pudsey=Chav), so it was kind of natural that my Dad was a massive Leeds United fan (note the was, I don't think they have any fans now). When he finally got bored of footie, he got a season ticket refund and bought a guitar. I began to play it, and found Jon Gomm as a guitar teacher, and later Natasha as a singing teacher last year.
I started playing at TFB's in Pudsey (thanks James Casey for giving me my first ever slot), then the Jug and Barrell in Stanningley (thank you Dave), and most recently the Primrose in Meanwood(thank you Lynn, Bob, Mike, Dr.H, Neil, and Arnold (ha ha)!)
I have recorded loads of demos- two at West Leeds CLC, one at school and some tracks at Mark's house when I go round, and that's about it really. Things I like are music, I love all the stuff in my influences box which probably needs updating majorly. And art, I really really like Lily Lee Lee Lau, Giger, Schiele, Kahlo and lots of other stuff I saw in galleries but never remembered the names of, sorry to them! No wait! I think there's one called Marcel Dzama, he did the artwork for Guero by Beck and he is amazing. I have a thing for langauges too, and books.Get MySpace Layouts from nUCLEArcENTURy .COM OR create your own using MySpace profile editor !!!

Music:

Band Website: Im not all that technological...
Band Members: I'm off bands for life. Too many egos. NEVER start a band with your boyfriend. It's doomed to failure.
Influences: Oooh- I like a lot of music, and I listen to it too much because my parents always go on about the volume of it, but not all of that really influences me directly... I suppose some of the major ones would be Bjork, Lupen Crook, Radiohead and Elliott Smith, but I like otns of little bands we go see at gigs. It's just that for some reason these are the ones which show up in my songs.
Oh well, I'll list what I like.
Arcade Fire, Blind Lemon Jefferson, The Bravery, The Cure, Noisettes, I Was A Cub Scout, :(, Lions Of SWE, Sons And Daughters, Blondie, The Fineline, Wild Beasts, DND, Sky Larkin, Piskie Sits, Chris McMann, The Dawn Chorus, Brian Eno and David Bryne (together or seperately, although I still think Eno should have kept out of Bowie's albums for the most part), Bjork, Lupen Crook, Elliott Smith, Radiohead, Killers, Pink Floyd, Libertines, early Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Peter Hammill, HEARTSREVOLUTION, Patti Smith, Regina Spektor, Skunk Anansie, Echo and the Bunnymen, Tom Waits, DJ Shadow, Lou Reed, This Et Al, Napoleon IIIrd, Duels, Miles Davis, We Start Fires, Joanna Newsom, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Long Blondes, Pulp, Thom Yorke, The Smiths, Forward Russia, Buen Chico, Faithless (but only a few songs, honestly) Duels,The Research, The Cribs, MIA, Go! Team, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker, The White Stripes, D-Koy, Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Stevie Nicks, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Suzanne Vega, early U2, Jon Gomm, Wolf Parade, Roco De Luca and the Burden, Sonic Youth, Sigur Ros, Fell City Girl, Explosions in the Sky, Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly, Pixies, Nirvana, Devo, Vib Gyor, Editors, CSS, My Bloody Valentine, Marianne Faithful, Husker Du, Fiona Apple, Ani DiFranco, The The, Howler Monkey, Sugarcubes, PIL, Solus Locus, Shut Your Eyes and You'll Burst Into Flames (GET A SHORTER NAME, PLEASE!!!) Tangerine Dream, Led Zeppelin, LAMB, Be Your Own Pet!, Massive Attack, Portishead, The Ripps, International Trust, These Monsters, Nick Drake, New Order, Joy Division, Talking Heads and more. Oh yeah and Crystal Castles, I love them and I want to kidnap them both and keep them in my cubbyhole so they can play songs for me!

Films...well. The Virgin Suicides, Frida, Ghostworld, The Piano, Capote, Schindler's List, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (the modern one - the whole set is just amazing), The Pianist, Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow, The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off (these two are the most amazing 80's films, probably the only good thing about the decade apart from the Smiths), In Cold Blood, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, As Good as it Gets, Cry Wolf, Chocolat, Control.
One's I hate. Breakfast At Tiffany's. Sorry. But I hate that Holly woman, I would have killed her, truly.
The girl I most love would have to be Nicole Cunningham, she is very crazy and very funny and we have known each other for a lifetime. Thank you, my tour manager (yeah, she claimed that job too).
I have other friends. KT is so cool she got her nipple pierced. Ouch. And my other friend Zoe is a serious gangsta. I'm actually terrified of her, she blackmails me every day for large sums of money. I also have to love my male friends. Hi Josh. And Tom Bland, you're a legend and the second name is the greatest. And Mark who is now back from Australia. And there are a lot of other people too but guess what I'm tired, I just went to aerobics and I can't be bothered. I could do a hate list but it would be too long and I think that might be internet harrassment or something. My favourite books are Cancer Ward by Alexandr Sol....something, he's a Russian and it's hard to spell. I feel stupid. Also The Last Confession Of Mabel Stark, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Catcher in the Rye, The Binding Chair, To Kill A Mockingbird, In Cold Blood, The Black Dahlia, The Wasp Factory, Complicity(I am a big Ian Banks fan), The Blood Detective (this book is sick in a good way)...all these books are good ... and the entire works of Franz Kafka. He was cool too.
Sounds Like: I'm not sure really.... my influences, I suppose. Acoustic guitar and vocals.
Quote from www.leedsmusicpromotions.com- thank you Paul, this made me very happy today, and made my mum and dad positively ecstatic! -
'Frankie Roe..Starting to make people sit up and take notice of her talents, Frankie is already producing quality lyrics and arrangements, which will surely be enjoyed from much further than her Leeds base.'
Thanks also to Jamie Jeffreys of No Title, who gave me a mention in the review of Acoustoc2 last year-
'More treats for the early birds next, with the self-styled classic song-smithery of 15 year old Frankie. Original material draws on an impressive range of influences, including everything from The Smiths to the James Bond theme tune, while cleverly constructed covers show a real creatvie flair, the highlight for me being a perfectly executed rendition of Nick Drake's 'Cello Song'. With talent like this Frankie easily belies her age, and is definitely one to keep an eye out for.'

My Blog

The amazingly funny gig we all went to.

Was quite ace actually. I worship Solus Locus now, more specifically me and KT worship the keyboard player. We actually felt blessed when he fell on our heads during a strange crowdsurfing attempt, an...

Last blog before christmas. I like that, it sounds like last flowers before the hospital.

Well that year ended well, the mechanical nun race was pretty fun and the bum pincher contributed greatly to the last day of school. So a reflection on this year. I left my school and most of my ...

My fantastic week.

I'm excited for Christmas, because it's December now. I feel like a deprived child every year though, because we never get an advent calendar. :P It's just that we forget all the time. And another int...
