Sounds Like: The Avenues @ Trash
By Ben Smith
Newly-renamed as Trash, the venue formerly know as the Mixing Tin held host to a launch party for the Sound People - United City album on Saturday.Having arrived shortly before 2 o'clock, I was greeted by a very welcome afternoon blast from the Jameson Raid as I settled in at the bar with my trademark cranberry juice. Songs like 'Celebrate Stupid' and 'Blue Smoke Bar' were performed with military-esque precision and a directness often lacking in their contemporaries with an added dose of squalling guitar. Making the most of the venue's sound system, they filled the room with echoed vocals and a multi-layered performance that could be likened in moments to Echo and the Bunnymen and Tapes 'n Tapes. Not looking at all unsettled by their early stage time, the band delivered a set worthy of headliners.
