Craig & Willoughby

About Me

Cathryn Craig & Brian Willoughby are currently in the 8th year of their partnership which began in Nashville, Tennessee...Brian, famed lead guitarist of Strawbs for 26 years, met Cathryn, a respected session singer and songwriter, while in Nashville writing songs for his debut solo recording BLACK & WHITE. Craig & Willoughby began as a writing partnership, with several songs for that well-received CD, including Alice's Song, later to be released by Strawbs in support of the National Autistic Society's Year of Autism Awareness.Brian's longtime friend Mary Hopkin was also a co-writer on BLACK & WHITE, singing their sensual Love Belongs Right Here. However, Cathryn's nearly total involvement in this project is the reason why many fans consider it to be her 'unofficial' third CD, after the highly acclaimed PORCH SONGS and CATHRYN CRAIG, released earlier on Goldrush Records. The duo then produced I WILL, with seven new Craig / Willoughby compositions. Brian's strong British Folk Rock influence mixes well with Cathryn's Roots and the resulting 'Anglicised Americana' blurs boundaries, showcasing her voice and his guitar and their intricately crafted songs in a unique and dynamic way.Strawbs' LIVE AT CHISWICK HOUSE, BAROQUE & ROLL and BLUE ANGEL, Cathryn's brilliant Appalachian tale PIGG RIVER SYMPHONY and several Nanci Griffith recordings all feature the duo's work.Brian's guitar instrumental album FINGERS CROSSED, featuring nineteen of his original compositions is available on John Tobler's Road Goes on Forever label.Craig & Willoughby's Rumours of Rain, a plea for peace, was recorded as a single, with a 'who's who' of folk artists including Ralph McTell, Nanci Griffith, Tom Paxton, Martin Carthy and members of Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, Pentangle, Lindisfarne and Strawbs under the banner of Folk for Peace.Videos of Cathryn & Brian performing "Mr Jefferson" and "Accanoe" have been posted on You-Tube thanks to Darren of Folking.com.
